Forget for a moment the rather astounding ending to Sunday's game between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.
The victory for the Redskins was important for reasons other than the improbable events that occurred in the closing seconds.
By winning, the Redskins (3-5) kept their hopes alive in their quest for an NFC wild card spot.
The Redskins have a record below .500, but the teams ahead of them in the hunt for a wild card spot are not much better. Dallas, Philadelphia, Minnesota, St. Louis and Carolina are 4-4. Atlanta is 5-3. The Redskins have home games left with Carolina, Atlanta and Philadelphia and are on the road against St. Louis.
Had the Redskins dropped to 2-6, they would be in a much more difficult position. The magic number for elimination from the playoff race usually is eight losses.

AND:

"What makes it extra sweet is that we answered a call by a guy that had some things to say about our team and me," Jansen said. "Our organization answered the call. It was definitely great to walk away with a victory."
Jansen said he had not talked to Parcells about the comments.
"I don't know him," Jansen said. "I've never met him.
"You can't be in this business and have thin skin. And you can't be in this business and not hear what's going around. "
