That Guy 11-06-2006, 08:41 PM yes this should have been addressed in the offseason, but this regime has shown a tendency to overlook the obvious, novak will probably be here next yr unless he just stinks it up completely the rest of the year
well, he's what? 2/5 now? i mean, yeah he won a game, but 1/4 from 30+ is what i'd call stinking it up.
bigSkinsfan61 11-06-2006, 09:21 PM Yea Novak Has Stunk It Up A Bit But Hall Aint In The Best Of Health 2 Yrs Running And Novak Just Needs To Get His "sealegs" Under Him A Little More To Be A True Nfl Kicker...we Really Need To Examine His Leg Strength Too
That Guy 11-06-2006, 11:45 PM he's a vagrant kicker for a reason. his leg strength is WAY better than it was last year though.
offiss 11-07-2006, 12:30 AM Im up for using a relatively decent draft pick on one.
If we had it, Id go 3rd/4th round if there was a very solid prospect. Otherwise, go after an UFA.
Don't count on it, we would rather give big money to a so so kicker with NFL experience than draft one with a lot of potential, to bad to because there are some pretty good kickers and punters I have seen this year in college.
This should have been addressed in the off season anyhow, Hall isn't that good it's not like he wasen't missing easy fieldgoals before he was hurt, and he's alway's injured. How bout letting this kid get confortable perhaps all he needs is game experience, he has to get used to the pressure which kickers have a ton of.
David Ackers anyone?
Nothing like picking at 8 year old scabs.
Twilbert07 11-07-2006, 10:00 AM He really makes me nervous. He's just not accurate from any range right now. Maybe that kick will give him a boost of confidence.
The kick really might boost his confidence. When he was at Maryland, he hit a 46-yard FG at Georgia Tech with no time remaining and then hot another to win the game in OT. After that, he went on a roll. Let's hope the same thing happens again.
dmek25 11-07-2006, 10:05 AM there are plenty of good college kickers that go undrafted every year. lets look to youth, and keep that guy for a couple of seasons. instead of looking for a new kicker every year

unfortunately that's not really true. last year only one good kicker came from college, and he went in the 4th round (but vinetari and longwell were available!). this year's draft is quite a bit deeper, but good kickers aren't easy to find... there were a couple decent punters last year though, and there'll be about 3 more this year. sepulveda being the best at punter, and crosby at kicker (possible 2nd rounder)

It's definitely a better idea to go with a proven kicker in free agency.
Young kickers coming out of college are such a crapshoot. So many times they don't really develop until a few years down the road.
How many kickers each year taken in the draft become a teams' regular kicker? Maybe 1 or 2 per year at the most?

yeah, it really depends on the year though. and kickers taken before the 5th tend to stick around pretty well (nugent, kaeding, gostkowski, etc), though almost all rookie kickers have a couple rough years to start.
