Novak needs to line up like I do for a golf shot. I know I am gonna hit it 10 yards right, so I turn and hit it ten yards left.

I'm very glad that he got a 'do over' kick at the end of the game and made the most of it. I really had my doubts that he could pull it off.

I'm sticking with my nickname for him ...
Nick 'the reason he was available' Novak.

Wasn't there a known issue with him hooking it one way so Danny Smith says to Gibbs get the ball to the Bleah (left or right hash mark) I cannot remember but when Portis got stuffed not only did it add 3 yards it put it on the wrong hash.

Novak had issues when he was a freshman at Maryland, and was able to correct them and becomes an All ACC kicker.

With that said, he's not the answer, but a temporary solution to a problem that should be solved in the offseason with an acquisition that isn't Hall or Novak.

If we spend any significant money in free agency next year it better be on the best available kicker. Anyone know who will be available??

Found this on some random website...

Josh Brown, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Brown is probably the best kicker on the market next off season, so he gets a mention. Team’s looking for a proven leg will make an offer, but I don’t see Brown going anywhere.

Other Free Agent Kickers

Rian Lindell, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Josh Scobee, RFA, Jacksonville Jaguars
Lawrence Tynes, RFA, Kansas City Chiefs

2007 NFL Free Agent K (http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/nfl/freeagentsK.html)

Brown is very good, but other than that, not much to get terribly excited about...

I know two guys. Hall and Novak, but I don't want either!

He missed the kick with 30 seconds left and I walked out into the garage, where I had been working on something. I came back in maybe 2 or 3 minutes later expecting to watch overtime and my wife yelled to me, THE REDSKINS WON!

I said "HOW?!?!?! NO THEY DIDN'T! I JUST SAW THEM BLOW IT!"

She told me they kicked a field goal. I said, "yeah and they missed it!". She reenacted it for me with the pole in the middle of our family room/former basement where the big screen is. I said "are you SURE it wasn't the Cowboys?"

Then the commercials ended and I saw the crazy replays. I missed a lot in that 2 minutes!

...

So anyways...Novak IS better than Hall distance-wise. He's an upgrade but not completely an answer. I'll still take a guy who can hit a 47-yarder with no time left on the clock over a guy who can't make a 35-yarder to save his own life.

Maybe Hall will get healthy over the offseason. HA HA HA

I like Scobee.
