chemistry means alot in this league. to have wholesale changes every year would be stupid. i really think a change in quarterback would inject life into this team. and no, its not going to fix the disaster we have on defense, but we could possibly start outscoring some of these teams

Move Archuletta off the roster.....or off the planet....only move I would make.

You guys aren't buying into JC not being good enough to supplant Brunell are you? Gibbs is afraid that his NFL inexperience won't equate to solid play since the whole team is adjusting to the new offense. Catch 22.

Yeah, I didn't merge the threads, they arent the same topic. One topic is what we should do, the next is what snyder and the rest of the staff will do. People need to stop pretending that snyder has no say in the personnel moves.

Where is your proof that he has a say in personnel??

Snyder has the final say in everything, where's the proof that he doesn't?

Your really trying to tell me a Billionaire who took over the Redskins and made them the Highest grossing sports franchise in the United States is not Savvy enough, come on. I have no problem with having an owner that gives his coach everything he wants, or would you rather have an owner like the Cardinals. Why is it fun to bash Snyder about how much he charges to park and come to games, most of that money goes right back into the team, trust me Snyder does not need your money. Im damn proud to be able to go to the biggest and one of the loudest stadiums in the league, it has definately got better since Gibbs came back and when that stadium rocks you cant hear anything. And actually football is a business my friend, and what some dont seem to understand is that in the world of business men, like Danial Snyder, the goal is to make money, and I dont think hes that bad of an owner if he can take a team that has been pretty bad even before he took over and still make them a cash cow. Stop the Snyder bashing, he does not wear a uniform, he doesnt miss tackles.
I'm not a fan of the business, and the top ranking revenue - I'm a fan of building a winner with staying power. I can't believe some of you feel Snyder is a genius skirting the cap every year. We carry more dead cap money than any team in the league. It's Gibbs attitude as well. I thought he'd bring roster stability upon his return, but he hasn't been able to retain core Redskins (Pierce, Smoot, Clark) because we have over-leveraged our cap every year. Teams like Philly and New England stay way under the cap to allow them to re-sign their core players as they APPROACH free agency. Both have done this brilliantly, and since they do so before their players hit the open market, they can usually retain their own at a significant discount. Tom Brady is Exhibit A - making significantly less than Peyton Manning. That doesn't mean they keep everyone, but they have the price they're willing to pay, and they're in a position to make a solid offer before their key guys are free agents. The Redskins NEVER have enough cap room to sign a guy like Pierce to an extension during the season, so we end up competing on the open market, and as history has demonstrated, we usually lose out. It burns me that we let go of self-made Redskins like Pierce and Clark, then pay a lot more for guys like Archuleta and Carter. The only year under Snyder that the Redskins have shown restraint was the lone year that Schottenheimer was in charge.

Snyder has the final say in everything, where's the proof that he doesn't?

Pretty much every word that's come out of Redskins Park since Gibbs came back says that Gibbs has the final say over personnel and Snyder just signs the checks and handles the negotiation process with agents.

Here's an interview with Cerrato (http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-114278.html)where he explains the front office setup:

ESPN Insider wrote the other day how teams come about their decisions. One of the things written was that pretty much was that Dan and you are the overriding people making decisions, so if Joe Gibbs wanted a player, he'd really have to sell you on it, and if he couldn't sell you on it, you guys would say yes or no. Or does Joe Gibbs have the final say? Or does Dan Snyder have the final say?

Vinny Cerrato

That's totally false.

The coach has the final say. We'll go through the whole process. We'll put everybody in an order. Then it will come down to the coach saying this is what I need or this is what I don't need.

Dan takes no say so in the player moves. He gives it all to Coach Gibbs. We all work together to come up with an answer and then the coach makes the final call. Like he says, somebody has to make the final call. He does.

He takes all the information and the thing that he does that's great is we go over it and over it and he asks everybody's opinion and everybody's opinion counts, from the trainers, to the strength coaches, to the scouts, to everybody.

He wants every opinion, every bit of information, then we'll make a good decision and he'll make the final call.

So, the Insider is totally wrong.

Phillip Daniel, Reynaldo Wynn, Mark Brunnel, and John Hall equals 9.3 million in freed up cap space. They all suck. Does anyone think they will be around next year? For them to retain the guys they have, they have to let some go. These are the most likely candidates. All are shoe ins, except Daniels. Fauria, gives us another million. This will provide us with the room to sign our draft picks. I dont think much else. It does'nt make sense to get rid of Archuletta until 2009. I hope that three weeks from now the Redskins are 4 and 5, and we can stop talking about next year. If the season go bad, it is time to start to build thru the draft. Who ever is making our draft choices and walk on free agents, has done a good job. Just look at Bailey, Smoot, Peirce, and Clark.

and who starts at DE? hall, brunell, collins, etc can go. wynn and daniels will both be back, we don't have many other options there.

clark and pierce were FAs (pierce was undrafted, clark was let go from the giants).

clements would be a worthwhile signing.

Bill B, all of the players that you are sugesting we release would cost us more to release than to keep. The players that make sense to release are the ones that I stated in the begginning of this post. Go to the salary cap section and look at the subtitle release fees. We cant even think about releasing any of the free agents we signed this year until 2009.

Thanks - I did not see that section - it seems the bigger the contracts that the Redskins have given the more salary cap trouble we are getting into! Looks like the should remain stable for a while
