I didn't say he's the real deal, I said hopefully he will be.

My bad, I misunderstood your post.

I guess you're seeing what I am seeing out of McIntosh too eh? (nothing to this point)

I hate to say it but sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward. What I mean is the Redskins need to stop the pattern of trading away draft picks for over-priced free agents that are not helping the team. STOP THE MADNESS!!! What it will take is a couple of years of building a team. They need to identify their core players; Portis, Cooley, Moss, Washington, Taylor and build around them through the draft and reasonable free agent acquisitions. Stop paying top dollar for mediocre players.

Leftwich is too inconsistent.

Next year is Campbell's time.

...and injury prone.

Yep Campbell will be the man next year and hopefully for 8-10 years afterwards. We haven't had a long-term QB since Theismann played for 11 years for us.

Top priority should be DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE! A few CBs, a LB or two and maybe some more reserve linemen.

A kicker we can rely on would help too, if Novak doesn't work out.

Our offense is solid with good playcalling.

Team needs to get younger on the o-line and d-line. I would take the 1st round draft pick and try to trade down becasue this team needs help in so many areas. I would also try and trade some players that still have value for draft picks.

And if we get a top five pick, who the heck do we take?! :(

FIrst of all, we WON'T get a top 5 pick. If we did, we should go for the marquis CB, whomever that is. There's a kid named Leon Hall from Michigan who looks great.

I'd select a pass-rushing DE before CB. With our weak pass rush, Champ Bailey himself would have a hard time in this D. Our secondary is much maligned, but you can get by with an average secondary if you have an outstanding pass rush. As poorly as Rogers and others have played at CB, I'm convinced that the talent is there (especially with a healthy Springs). I'm not as certain about Andre Carter suddenly bolstering our pass rush. Get a bonafide pass rusher, and much of this secondary's problems will disappear.

First, while I appreciate the thought of this thread, I am not - repeat not - ready to give up on this year yet. It's tough sledding but maybe, just maybe we can go 8-1 or 7-2 and make it in. Not counting on it, but not giving up either.

Second, get Clements, start Campbell and draft lineman, defensive and offensive (yes, I know we don't have much in the way of draft but, what we have should be spent on getting younger and better along the lines).

This just makes me nervous. Most everyone here (minus myself and a couple others) said Ramsey was the man and will be for years to come. He wasn't. We need to come up with a backup plan for the QB position. I'm not saying Campbell will not become the man, but we have shown and should know by now, the QB position is the most important position on the field. It's hard to find a Brett Favre, or Peyton Manning type QB, so do what the Pats did...find a back up plan and maybe he'll be the next Tom Brady. Never stop looking for talent at the QB position...it's never enough.

They were speaking from hope rather than observations, obviously. I watched Ramsey and saw a guy who never matured as a pro QB. I year 4, he made the same stupid mistakes and decisions he did in his rookie year. Campbell is very smart football-wise (proved that in Auburn with a different system AND sucess every year) and has a ton more ability than Ramsey.

Campbell has the tools to be a great pro QB. The only abilities Ramsey had were the ability to lose the game and the ability to lose his job. I was NEVER confortable with him playing for us. Sure he can throw the ball far...you could get a guy off the street that can do that.

I do agree with you, it wouldn't hurt to have another QB to back up Campbell, but I wouldn't draft one with our other needs. Plus, we don't want to have a backup who isn't developed yet as Campbell has been developed and prepared. We should go after a young backup like Volek or Schaub. We also don't want Campbell to get the feeling we're replacing him with another draft pick. I hope we don't keep Todd Collins for our #2 next year, assuming Brunell retires...which may not happen. Having Brunell as Campbell's backup would be fine with me next year, however, we can't rely on that for more than a year...so a backup plan for the future IS needed.
