RiggoRules 10-25-2006, 10:50 AM The odds of a first round QB pick--especially a high one--paying off are exceptionally low.
Are there ones that work? Obviously. However, the odds of a major bust and disaster are about as bad as it gets in the NFL.
firstdown 10-25-2006, 11:00 AM I've been all over the board about the QB talk... do I need to respond to every QB thread? :)
Hey newbie, welcome to the board, but I suggest you take a look around before starting so many new threads. A lot of this has already been discussed and the Warpath Gods don't appreciate talking about the same things over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.
We don't three names Brunell, Ramsey, Arington over and over and over and over!
BDBohnzie 10-25-2006, 01:02 PM 1) Bank on Brady Quinn being more like Trent Dilfer than Tom Brady
2) He's a product of his environment. Once drafted, his GQ looks will only get him the herp from Paris Hilton (ask Matt Leinart).
3) The Skins have Jason Campbell, we don't need more knucklehead young QBs in a Gibbs system, who relies on washed up QBs to win Super Bowls (Theismann, Williams, Rypien).
4) n00bie training with TAFKAS starts in 20 minutes. don't be late.
61cad 10-25-2006, 01:09 PM No way!
Get a quality "D" or "O" lineman.
Monkeydad 10-25-2006, 01:24 PM Easy answer.
NO.
Quinn reminds me a lot of Rick Mirer and not just because of the Irish uniform.
He looks like a guy who can handle college defenses but not pro ones. He got destroyed by a good Michigan defense and doesn't look good late in games. Mirer could run better than Quinn though. So can Campbell.
We'd be wasting 3 years of developing Campbell and set the team back about that long if he just abandoned him.
We have better positions to address...like CB, or any defensive position.
jsarno 10-25-2006, 01:51 PM Easy answer. NO.

True, we've made our bed with these qb's, we have to lie with them.

ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!!!! Other teams are always hopped up to trade up for a quality qb / rb / wr. We could easily trade down for top notch quality players that fill our needs.
I disagree with everyone about Quinn being a poor qb in the NFL. Sure if you took him right out now, and placed him with a team, he'd suck. But who wouldn't? Quinn will be a good NFL qb because he adapts. Charlie Weiss is a great coach and Quinn will be ready because of him.I don't beleive ANY college qb is ever ready for the NFL,they have to sit for a year to understand the respective system. Even Peyton threw like 26 ints in his first year and he was the closest to ever being NFL ready.

don't forget about roethlisberger ... although their gameplan was extrememly conservative, he looked ready for the NFL when he went
15-1 (or something like that) in his first 16 games.
ArtMonkDrillz 10-25-2006, 02:03 PM I also think Quinn will be a very good pro with a quick learning curve because of the pro stlye offense he runs. A lot of good college QBs who are high draft picks probably struggle at first because they are running a college style (lots of opinions, all shotgun formations, etc) so it takes them longer to adjust.
dmek25 10-25-2006, 02:07 PM in the right offense Quinn could thrive,in the wrong offense he could look like heath shuler. its pretty simple. not great arm strength, but lots of moxie, and gets the ball out fast
celts32 10-25-2006, 02:07 PM Why do they need another young QB to ride the pine? If anything they need an established veteran that can win now since they seem to have JC on a 5 year plan.
