Adam Archuleta has all the "tools". these are professional athletes, developing and maintaing physical "tools" is their job. any young guy out there has the tools.
what made Champ so good wasn't his tools, it was his instinct, his 'feel' for what the receiver was going to do. CB is a hugely instinctive position, that's why it's so coveted. instinct of course, is the one thing no one can teach, only nurture.
so far, Carlos seems totally focused on just following the guy he's after. he doesn't have a sense of the QB, the play, or anticipating (and reacting to) the WR's actions. he's just running after a guy.
i expected a whole lot more from a top 10 1st rounder, and frankly our scouts.
