It's inevitable that the switch will be made at some point this year, unless of course the team gets incredibly hot and makes a serious playoff push.
But let's talk reality here, even though it happened last year and I'm still holding out hope, I don't think we're going to see another miracle turnaround. We've got too many problems on both sides of the ball to all of a sudden hit the switch.
So the question is, when will we see Campbell? I think alot of us are thinking if they lose to the Colts on Sunday, with a 2-5 record and a bye week to give them extra time to get him ready the Nov. 5th game against Dallas would be the perfect time to plug him in.
I say it's not gonna happen.
With two division games against Dallas and Philly on the other side of the bye and the fact that the Skins would still be technically alive in the playoff race, I honestly don't see Campbell starting until the playoffs are all but out of reach and that won't be until the Skins hit 7 losses.
Starting Campbell is going to be a strong signal that the season is over. I don't think Gibbs is afraid to make a QB change, but I do think he is hesitant to raise the white flag until he absolutely has to.
Take it for what it is, but this is just my little warning to not slit your wrists when you see Brunell starting after the bye regardless of what happens against Indy.

From what Gibbs has been saying this week, that scenario seems the most likely, unless Brunell pulls a Rex Grossman, or gets his leg broken. What Gibbs apparently can't see though, is the fact that the season is over if Brunell continues to play the way he has all season.

I agree, JC is not going to start afte the bye no matter what happens this week. I dont think JC will start this season at all. For whatever reason Gibbs is loyal to MB and wont pull him unless he gets hurt. I will say there is a small chance JC could start in week 16 but I think those chances are minimal.

I don't agree.
If the Skins hit 7 losses the playoffs would be out of reach in all likelihood. It would make absolutely no sense to keep playing Brunell at that point. Gibbs isn't dumb, at that point he would know that it's time to begin the Campbell era. Besides, the fans would boo Brunell out of the stadium at that point.
JWsleep 10-18-2006, 09:52 AM I'm afraid you're probably right, Matty. And we already know about Gibbs great loyalty to Brunnell. And it's especially likely if the rest of the team continues to play poorly. First, it suggests that MB isn't the only problem here, so switching him won't really help. And two, if the rest of the team is playing badly, it would be a tough way to start the Campbell era. Little is gained by having him go out there with the rest of the team unable to support him (recall the sad saga of Patrick Ramsey...). So it' MB for a few more games at least.

Gibbs is loyal. He tries to take care of the people, that take care of him. More than that, he made the statement, "I try to put the team in the best position to win". At this point in time, MB is the best QB possibility on this team to win..........now. We lose to Indy, I want JC in. Gibbs won't let that happen until Archimedes pronounces us dead. I'm ok with that, evaluate, and execute for next season.
firstdown 10-18-2006, 09:56 AM Brunell will be the starter as long as we have a chance of making the playoffs. Then if we do not see JC we have to start second guessing what Gibbs is thinking. I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear waht Al and Gibbs talk about after each game. We have not heard any rumors of AL wanting JC as of yet unless I missed something. With that said JC won't see the field because we going to start kicking butt!

I think about that all the time! I would give anything to know what REALLY goes on rather than the SWILL fed to the media

I agree Gibbs isnt dumb. I also know Gibbs wont play JC just to get him time. He will only play JC if he thinks can succeed and wont get killed. Right now I'm not sure Gibbs thinks that JC can do it.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 10-18-2006, 10:35 AM I do not think Gibbs will play JC until we have 7 losses. I wouldn't switch QBs until that point either.
