I think there's more discussion involving the offense because most people here believe it's the least difficult phase to fix. The tools are there to make things better.
For the defense? Not so much.
Exactly. That's why I get somewhat annoyed when people defend Brunell by saying things like, "why replace him when the defense is just as responsible for our struggles?" While I agree that the D is probably even more responsible, somethings got to give with this team and I don't think they can make a midseason adjustment to 8 of the players on defense.
So that's it? We're giving up on the 'D' and basically letting them off the hook?
I for one expect a lot more of the defense, and will continue to do so.

after the way our D got us to the playoffs last year...the D will NEVER be off the hook until they start performing like we all know they can....

Maybe Gibbs needs to start calling the plays. Last year the offense finished like 15th or something like that.

What is our identity Offensively?
Sadly, its making alot of people laugh. I for one hear it and get angry, like watching this guy perform.

So you say, Yo MJG- well what does the Defense identify as?
I'd say a big bitch with a burger in her butt.

Certainly nobody's going to let the defense off the hook. Carlos Rogers, Kenny Wright, Adam Archuleta, Andre Carter, Warrick Holdman, Philip Daniels and even Sean Taylor are not playing up to potential, and each of them have a lot of explaining to do. Even Marcus Washington and Lemar Marshall appear to be going through the motions, more than they are being a disruptive force like they were last year.
But what do you honestly expect from Golston and Montegomery? Or Griffin and Salave'a; players that the front office HAD to know there are injury issues that have at times plagued them, and hence, the entire defense should they go down for any length of time. Just how long did the organization expect them to anchor the line and stop the run all by themselves year after year? Ditto for Shawn Springs.
In many ways, the defense is what it is, and will not get any better until there's an opportunity to overhaul it. Even through the #3 and #10 rankings, I've been saying that they've been due for an upgrade in several positions, but hey, no one listens to me. Instead, they sign the Brandon Nobles, and keep guys like Renaldo Wynn, who if he were cut today, honestly wouldn't stand a chance at being picked up by another team. I mean come on, he had a half a sack last year! The Front Office picks through the trash of other teams and throws spare parts at the D-line and hope everthing turns out all right in the morning.
What we're seeing with the D was bound to happen, and unfortunately, we're stuck with it.
On offense though, there are opportunities to make changes, and to adjust schemes and playcalling.

HAhaa, NFL total access actually shows the Skins being interviewed saying they are still optimistic and hanging in there. I guess it would be too if I got paid regardless.

I've found secret video of a trick play from page 697 of Saunders' playbook (http://www.aolsportsblog.com/2006/10/16/penn-state-almost-pulled-out-the-weirdest-trick-in-the-book/)
