Gibbs will not coach this team next year when the Skins dont make the playoffs this year.

I said early before the season, are there too many cooks in the kitchen. We had a chemistry last year all the way through the organization. new coaches, players kills that sometimes. Too many hands pulling the dough in too many directions is going to cause it to break. I hope the core of our coaching staff stays, Williams, blache, and gray. I do hope that gibbs and saunders can find a medium on how to run the offense. I think Al feels obligated to throw the ball around to get everyone involved. Screw that. run the plays that are going to give us success. who cares if Lloyd gets catches or El, we need to do what we are capable of doing, not what they THINK we should be able to do!

I totally agree. Once again this week when the team gets to the 30ish yard line there are delay of games, false starts, etc. That tells me there is something going on getting the play in. Another sign of too many cooks is that this team never gets a play off with more that 1 sec on the play clock. Thats great for running out the clock atthe end of the game but in the 1st qtr its just not needed. Another example, this team has no 2 min offense. I believe because a decision of the play cant be made fast enough to run a 2 min O.

Bottom line is this organization need gutted from top to bottom and a whole new mentality needs to be installed because this team just does not seem to get upset about losing.

The coaching staff will remain intact next year, even if we have another 6-10 season like 2004. However, after that, for the 2008 season, I'd say it is time to bring in a new, younger staff that we can build around.

And this means no disrespect to Gibbs and the gang. No one ever will match what Gibbs did during his first stint in Washington. For that, he always will be my favorite coach.

This raises another interesting question. What is the metric of success to gauge the performance of Gibbs 2.0? Is it a Super bowl victory. SB appearance? Consecutive playoff seasons?

I think an SB victory is a harsh metric to judge Gibbs 2.0 success. Heck, Parcells hasn't done it in a while either but is still regarded as a great coach. Reid hasn't done it.

An SB appearance would be cool, but I think for Gibbs 2.0 to be considered a success, the skins should make the playoffs atleast 3 of the 5 years of his tenure (even if we end up as a punching bag in the second round of the playoffs for a vastly superior team).

Remember, when Gibbs came back, he said he wanted to return the skins to respectability and their winning ways. I don't think he has done that as yet, as great as the playoff run last year was. We still lay way too many eggs against both good and bad teams.

There were plenty of rumors last season that Gibbs was ready to retire. After this debacle, I'd be surprised to see him stick around.

Your metric for success of making the playoffs three out of five years makes sense to me.

This year's team is talent-laden, but I doubt we'll make the playoffs. And for Gibbs 2.0, it doesn't appear like he's having any fun at all. I wonder whether he stays if the Skins finish 6-10 or worse this year. Gibbs 2.0's overall record so far of 19-21 isn't worthy of many accolades.

These guys will all be back next year as determined as ever. I don't see Gibbs giving up unless his health says otherwise. He didn't come back to give a half assed effort. He'll see this thing through health permitting.

Even if Gibbs goes after this season if the skins dont make the playoffs (I think both will happen) one thing that cant be said of Gibbs is that he gave a half-assed effort. He may not have got the results he wanted or expected but he gave his full effort in trying to make this flawed organiztion back into a winner.

This thread is stupid. We have the best coaches out there. This is about a TEAM and the TEAM not yet getting it. Saunders is new and it takes time. Gibbs had them on a roll last year... but then we needed to rebuild again once we brought in the new offense.... TIMING is everything...
