I realize that it was Spurrier's fault... but the bottom line is that he thought he could win with a system and not talented players. They didn't have the talent last year. Wuerffel was not a talented player and he would not have helped their cause.

Ramsey had started 6 or 8 games prior to last year... that's still a rookie in my warped world.

Ramsey started 5, played 10.

Coughlin also inherited an Expansion team, and got them to the playoffs fast. You cant compare Fassel and Coughlin by sayin well fassel went to the SB, cuz fassel inherited a team that was already made...

Spurrier thought his guys were talented, and most of the Gators just weren't. Maybe his system would have worked, but SS didn't work hard enough to do that. I hated Schottenheimer, but SS made me long for the days of Tony Banks and the "half-field read".

I don't think Spurrier thought he had a boatload of talent... but I don't think it mattered to him... he believed in his system and was going to keep at it, win or lose. He was going to use players that knew his system, regardless of their proven ability. I agree that he didn't work hard enough and he didn't make the team work hard enough.
But then again, any system with no pass protection, a lousy RB and a young QB is going to have problems, regardless of how hard they work.

These issues are exactly why I can't understand why King thinks that the Giants will come around faster than the Skins. Coughlin may instill a new sense of discipline, but they still don't have anyone to throw the ball down the field, anyone to block for the QB, or a RB that can hang onto the ball.

Discipline is great, but execution scores points. I just don't see the Giants doing a lot of that this year.

I could go either way... but I think the difference is that several Giant players admitted "giving up". They won't "give up" for Coughlin.

Point is I think the cupboard is far from bare here in DC, and Gibbs has more to work with than Coughlin and is better equipped to get results. I know we'll be better equipped to compete this year and should be better than the G-men.
