This is a great article. It accurately describes my feelings and reflects my experiences of going to games against the Eagles at FEDEX.

NYT Registration is required (free but a pain).

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the article:

Those people in Philadelphia are the most classless fans in the world. They’re just a bunch of drunks looking for trouble. I’ll never go back there again.

In a separate incident that day, according to The Daily News, David Lee and Christian Perez, a reporter and a cameraman for SNY, the Mets’ network, were cursed and had bagels thrown at them when they arrived at the stadium in a SNY truck. After the game, they returned to the parking lot to find part of the network’s logo scraped off the truck, a side mirror ripped off, the rear windshield wiper bent and a tire slashed. The vehicle reeked of beer and urine.

Michael Martocci, the vice president of Big Blue Travel in Manhattan, which arranged a bus trip for 72 Giants fans, including the Scalises, said: “Every year, the abuse we take from those animals in Philadelphia gets worse and worse. I’m seriously considering having two armed guards sit with us next year.”

While Philly's fans are certainly ahead of the bell curve on this issue, it certainly is not isolated to them. Fan behavior at professional sporting events in the U.S. in general has been regressing for the last 30 years. Unfortunatly, it's to the point that I don't think its a very healthy environment for young kids...especially football. Drunkards falling on themselves and weekend warriors belting out profanity like irish sailors permeate every level of every football stadium I've been to lately, including FedEx. It takes away a lot of the fun of the game for me personally when I have to worry about getting a beer dumped on me or opposing fans starting fights with each other.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude, but standards of decency in general have taken a hit in our society and fan behavior is merely a reflection of that.

i agree, but... for some reason Philly fans think its open game for anything once they purchase a ticket. 95% of the fans in there are assholes. i once ask a cop his name, saying i would look him after the skins win, and he said " f**k you, you are on your own" so part of it is the mentality of Philadelphia

Are you serious? A Cop said that? Man that's just not right. This reminds of a friend of mine telling me a well know racist we went to high school with becoming a Cop. How can someone like that be just?

I was born and raised in Philly...Eagles fans are by far the worst. There is bad behaivior at all the philly sporting events but the Eagles season ticket holders are the worst of the bunch by a mile. Total white trash. Those fans are the reason I hate the team. They don't ever deserve to win a Super Bowl.

the eagles fans are proud that they're the worst in the league, because they think they're the best by acting like that
