skins 91

My uncle, being the biggest redskins fan I know, would always tell that the greatest redskins team was the '84 skins. But some website say that the '91 skins team was the fourth greatest of all-time. So which team is the greatest redskins team of all-time?
Me personal, I would say the 91 team was the greatest. They were #1 in defense and offence. Both of their receivers (Art Monk&Gary Clark) caught over 70 receptions for over a thousand yard. They almost went undefeated, winning 14 games. The 'Skins outscored their opponents 485-224, and they had a tough schedule. After going 14-2, they romped through the NFC playoffs, beating the Falcons 24-7 and demolishing the Lions 41-10 on their way to the Super Bowl. In the Big Game, the 'Skins beat the cursed early-1990s Bills 37-24.
So you tell who you think is the greatest redskins team of all-time and why.

you said it the '91 squad. the numbers they put up. I especially enjoyed beating the falcons that year in the playoffs...deon sanders had invited mc hammer to the game and them two talked smack all week and we then put it on them.

I think your uncle was probably talking about the '83 team that lost to the Raiders in Super Bowl 18. Many, including Joe Gibbs, have said that was the most talented Redskin team ever.
Now admittedly, I wasn't paying as much attention to the Skins in 1983 when I was 9 years old. I remember '91 vividly though -- and still have a few of those games on VHS.
The one thing about '91 that I think most people forget was that our running game wasn't all that great, the 1990 season actually had better numbers on the ground.

The 1983 team was something to behold. They were dominant offensively and in terms of national and local media were the most hyped that I can remember. Joe Theismann was on "Late Night with David Letterman" the week between the Rams and 49ers playoff games, believe it or not. That type of thing was typically reserved for Montana and the 49ers in those days. All that attention must have gone to their heads because they played like shite against the Raiders and therefore cannot be considered for greatest all time. What a waste.
The 1991 team was the most dominant Championship team that I have seen. They could quite conceivably have won all their games that year. Very balanced offensively and strong in all three phases.
The 1982 team was very good and lost only once in that strike-shortened season but played a lot of close games. To me, they were the most fun to watch.
The 1987 team was probably the least dominant of the three SB Champions. They were up and down, going back and forth between Williams and Shroeder all year and were fortunate in two respects. First, the Vikings beat the 49ers who had a great team, allowing the Redskins to host the NFC Championship. Second the Broncos managed to beat Marty's Browns who I believe would have made a much more difficult matchup for the Skins in the SB.
I'm sure if there were someone here old enough to remember 1937 or 1942 they could make a strong case for those teams. The 1942 team only lost one game (vs. N.Y. Giants 7-14). That was week 2. They won 10 straight after that. The 1937 team was 8-3.

My uncle did say the redskins team that lost to the raiders in the super bowl was the best redskins team. I wanted to find out from other people which redskins team from any year do they think is the best and why.

The '83 team was amazing. Two losses by a combined 2 points. A then record 500+ points scored. An astonishing +48 (or +43) turnover ratio. But at the end, they didn't win the Super Bowl while the 1991 team did.

They were a very good team. I was young, but I do remember thinking before the superbowl that year that we would not be able to stop Marcus Allen. I was right. I'm going with the 91 team. I remember watching them thinking "how bad are we going to be this team today".
