This is just a tragic story. I hope he recovers and gets help.

While I've never been one of his fans as a result of his many negative antics he's still a human being worthy of human compassion. I truly hope none of us live a life deserving of some of the things I've read here. Please let none of the negatives be said of us. I'll continue to pray for the man, and hope he get's the help he seems to so desperately need.

So does everyone who was picked on as a kid and everyone who had a bad childhood get a free pass to be a jerk as an adult? Do they get to behave and play by a different set of social standards? Maybe some people think so, but I'm definitely not one of them.


ps. this is a different issue than the alleged "suicide attempt" issue. I'm merely defending my stance that he's been a jerk for years. Obviously if he really did try to kill himself, I would agree that his life experiences could arguably contribute to that.

I hear you--you make good points. nobody gets a free pass to be a jerk ... some people should get cut more slack than others though.

For those of you who are unwilling or unable to show any empathy for a person battling with suicidal depression (if the reports are true), then I hope from the bottom of my heart that you never have to experience depression up close and personal. As someone who has seen depression and suicide in my family, I can tell you it is the most gut wrenching and painful thing you have ever even attempted to comprehend.

T.O. is an first class jerk, no if ands or buts, but to show no empathy for another human struggling like that is pretty low. To joke about it is reprehensible. Frankly, I am embarrased to be a member of this community right now.

2. No one on this site is actually making fun of depression or people with depression, like your family members. It's simply a case of not giving him a "free pass" to be an ass. If Osama Bin Laden comes out and says he is depressed, do we forgive him immediately for 9/11 and give him a hug? (and you thought that the US Soldier - TO analogy was a stretch!?)
