CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 09-25-2006, 07:03 AM not insults im trying to be realist not going overboard on beating probaly the worst team in football. we will probably do this again against the titan and that proves nothing. i hope this is a turn around game for the skins but i'm in the wait and see mode. show me something in three of the next four weeks against the jags, giants which stink and the colts. i thought we might at best at the break be 4-3 now i hope its not 2-5. its great that he completed 22 in a row but only about 5 were across the line of scrimmage you can be the texans and titans that way but against a good team i think were going to have to do more lets hope im wrong.but like i said show me enough talking about it. hail to the skins and mark great game and trent green did a great job here talking over for gus ferrotten when we were o-6.

While I give Brunell props for putting together an impressive amount of completions in a row, what I did notice is that only about six of his passes were actually over the line of scrimmage. From your list, it looks like more like eight were over the LoS, which is fine against the Texans, who tackle like a bunch of retarded bean bags, but I don't think the wide receiver screen will be nearly as effective against Jacksonville.
If this performance helped Brunell get his confidence back, I'll eat a plate full of crow, and root for him, but I'll hold my final judgement until after the next two games.

Uhhh....same Texans that had the Eagles by the throat two weeks ago. Same Texans that Peyton didn't connect for 22 in a row.
Look, these guys aren't the Steelers, but they sure as hell 'aint USC either.

South, no need to wait til next week to eat crow. But some props are at least in order for he did yesterday.

i will join you in that hypothetical plate, and comparing Brunell's lateral/shovel pass completions with P.Manning's is kinda ridiculous (sorry CP), it only takes Peyton 3-4 completions to get in the endzone.

I'll admit that he performed better than anyone expected. In fact, I'm sure Brunell didn't think he was going to break an NFL record yesterday, but I won't jump on the Brunell bandwagon, simply because he looked decent against the worst defense in the league. If he looks half as good against the Jags and Giants, I'll be first in line for some deep fried crow.

yes, props are due for Brunell managing that game like the vet he is.
With the kind of guys we have, the short stuff makes sense. Randel El and Moss are both like punt returners in the open field. Nobody wants to take them on in space.
We will need to get the ball down field more often in the coming weeks, but in this game it just wasn't necessary.
JWsleep 09-25-2006, 11:01 AM And Gibbs said as much in his post game presser. He was asked if the lack of long throws was by design. He said it was, given what they thought would work against the Texans D. Mark executed that game plan perfectly. What's he supposed to do, ignore the game plan and throw long? Also, props to Saunders for coming up with a plan that worked, given our skill players.
Sure, it's going to be a different ball of wax against Jax, but that doesn't take away from the play of Brunnell against the Texans.
