CanadianSkin 11-09-2006, 04:59 PM Are you going to rent a car or looking to use the Metro and how long are you going to stay? The reason I ask is because it would change where I would stay and several people a assuming that you will have a car. I've never used the Metro to go to a game but to get around DC its the only way to go.
We will not be renting a car. Relying on the Metro and maybe cabs to get us around. We have a few things planned for the trip. Might go check out a Caps or Wizards game on Friday or Saturday. Monday or Saturday is probably when we are going to check out the monuments etc. Sunday is all about football. Heading to the Stadium 3 hours early to hopefully find a few tailgating parties and soak in the atmosphere. We would like to stay in a place around some sports pubs and malls. Also our Flight will not be leaving until probably around 6 on Monday so we have to be able to carry our luggage for a few hours on Monday.
All of you have given great info (a tad confusing cause so many suggestions) I want to thank everyone for helping. I am thinking of staying in Maryland or in DC as it seems to be the best price and nearest to FedEx.
Hey CanadianSkin,
I visited DC for the first time last week for the Dallas game.
My advice: Pay the extra to stay in the City. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Capitol. Its 1 block from a metro station. I think you can get an online price for about $150 a night.
The metro is easy to use and gets you most places. I recommend putting $10 on a Metro Fair Card and using that.
You can walk from the metro to Fedex field too! dont wait in line for the bus.
love them hogs 11-09-2006, 08:18 PM I hardley ever post anything but when i see people putting down good old P.G. county i have to step in.There is nothing wrong with staying in Greenbelt and I should know because that is where i grew up.Its not "the hood" or even anything close. So basically im saying dont be scared, you have nothing too worry about.
Also, while you are in D.C you should check out the air and space museum. It is located in the mall near the capital building and is free admission.I dont know if you are interested in aviation but there is all kinds of historical aircraft just hanging from the cielings (like the spirit of st.luis).Also there are some flight simulators that you can get in and spin yourself around and do flips which is pretty fun.You can also experience the joy of spending 8 or 9 dollars on a mcdonalds "value" meal .....yeah.
good luck and hail to the redskins
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 11-09-2006, 08:28 PM CanadianSkin,
I hope you have a blast and I am sure you will. Cheer loudly!
RedskinRat 11-09-2006, 08:30 PM There is nothing to rival your first Fed Ex trip. I got there around 5 hours early, much to the annoyance of my Ex.
Yeah, Ex.
CanadianSkin 11-10-2006, 03:53 AM Yeah My brother and I are totally pumped. I will probably have to make a similar trek in a few years to Hotlanta, when the Skins play the Falcons in Georgia. But this is going to be something to remember for a life time.
Do not worry I will be loud and proud, and so will my bro (for the guys who are going to lose).

I don't think anybody was putting the entire area of PG County down. Most of the post's (listed in this thread) were from people offering advice, with CANADIANS safety in mind. It wasn't a personal attack against any specific county, as a whole.
I reside in PG County therefore, I can't grasp why you would think Central Avenue, Marlboro Pike, Donnell Drive, Walters Lane and Pennsylvania Avenue are safe. Perhaps you should come back and visit!
EternalEnigma21 11-10-2006, 12:23 PM Here's one thing you should do. Take 395 out of DC and take the Crystal City exit. You'll see a 7-11, and right next to it is a place call the Crystal City Restaraunt. They open for breakfast (at least they did a couple of years ago) around 930. Steak and eggs are great there... and its worth the drive ;)

I never said that all of P.G county was fine , just that it was fine too stay in Greenbelt. It would be cheaper and more convienent than staying in the city or V.A.By the way, I have been to all the places you mentioned except Donnell Drive (never heard of it, is it around largo like the rest?) and amazingly enough have come out unscathed so I suppose thats why i think its safe.
Cheerful1 11-11-2006, 06:41 PM Love Them Hogs: Donnell Drive maps North/South. If you exit the beltway @ Pennsylvania Avenue and travel West, the first traffic (on Penn. Avenue) is Forestville Road, the second traffic light is Donnell Drive.
Greenbelt is much safer than any of the other area's near the stadium, yet, I think the hotel rate's are more costly v's Crystal City. Then again, rates also vary depending on the availability when one books a reservation. In the past, the Redskin players and coaching staff have utilized the Marriott in Greenbelt. I expect there's a vast array of fan's there too.
Regardless of which route he takes, I hope CANADIAN has a fantastic time while he's here.
