Training Camp Hurt Us

When we brought in Saunders and his 700 page play book why did Skins start training camp late and ended it early (I'm not sure if we ended it that early). I know Gibbs said it was because they had such good mini camps but with all the new plays you would think that they would have had even a longer training camp. The coaches did not have to have a pads on every day pratices but just running through all the plays day in and day out would have helped all the O players learn the system. Remember how Brunell played in 04 after trying to learn a new system? Does the begining of this year look just like 04? It looks the same to me and I feel that Brunell and the rest of our O are thinking to much and not just playing their position.

Just a coach's call. Gibbs isn't perfect, he's close though:)

He recently acknowledged that he would approach training camp differently too.

I think he said he would do things differently if things don't turn around this year.

I think training camp is a tough call for coaches. The NFL is a year round job now with minicamps and OTAs. It's not like the old days where training camp was the only time you had to install systems.

The Skins have been working with Saunders' system since the day he got here. With training camp you have to strike a fine balance between getting in the necessary work and not beating up your team and wearing them down before the season even starts.

I don't think we can point to training camp and say that's the main reason they are struggling right now. I don't think there's clear cut reason right now. Regardless, the reasons don't matter. It's time to start finding solutions.

Look, we lost Portis and had some other key injuries that hurt us in TC, so coming in earlier has its downside as well. Also, Gibbs plan may well pay dividends at the end of the year, if we are fresher than other teams then. Of course, if we're out of the running earlier, it will be for nothing.

Plus, we have three new starters on defense and it does take time for players to adjust, and learn to trust one another. While it might seem slight, it's a major adjustment there, and I will give them the benefit of any doubt and a reasonable amount of time to develop the chemistry needed to become as effective as I know they want to become.

The Panthers were in pads all training camp long...lot of good it did them eh? They're setting pretty at 0-2 just like us.

The Skins will have a eureka moment any time and when that happens it's going to be a beautiful thing.

when I think of this team, I think about that nike gridiron commercial with shula talking to the team and saying, "I know what you're capable of, but I just haven't seen it yet"...I like that commerical :)
