JWsleep 09-19-2006, 12:09 PM We have to find a way to run the ball consistently--obviously the return of Portis, if he's ready, we'll be a big lift. That brings the safties up, keeps teams out of nickle, and makes a passing game run by a QB with a weak arm possible. Remember, in KC Saunders had an awesome running game. Right now, the O-line's play in general has been shakey, so a lot is on them to step up. But if we can't run, we'll be in long yardage passing downs facing pass rush and nickle. And we've seen we have serious trouble with that!
I don't see the point of having Kenny Wright on the field at this point. THe return of Springs is obviously a big deal, but we need someone to step up and take the third corner role. We also need more pressure from our front four. Funny to find yourself missing Cedric Killings!
I'm willing to accept that some of this is learning the new offense. But come on. And like most others, I'm all for Campbell right now, but no way JG does that. Oh, well. I trust him, but this has always been one of his weakness (if you want to call it that)--he sticks too long with the vet at QB. So Gibbs ought to tell Brunnell to take more chances. Not losing is not enough. You've got to win.
BDBohnzie 09-19-2006, 12:14 PM Remedy? A few kegs of beer, 2 boats, strippers and a lake...oh wait, that's been done already.
The OLine needs to step up. Too many false starts (hello? you know what the snap count is) and not giving Brunell enough time to throw. Brunell needs to hang in there a moment longer. There were several times on Sunday night that he had open people but didn't step up in the pocket to make the throw.
Defensively, the guys need to tackle better. A lot of whiffs and bad tackling in the first 2 games. Seemed to me that Marcus Washington got beat bad a few times by Jason Witten... GW needs to blitz more, let those who drop back into coverage take care of business.
Cartwright made a helluva runback, but right before that, I kept asking myself why is he back there? If you watch the replay, the Cowboys overpursued and Rock just happened to find the hole. Put Randle El and Thrash back there and let them go to town.
DaveyFoSho 09-19-2006, 12:27 PM It sucks that we lost to dallas but lets be realistic here..even before preseason and before the Vikings game the sunday night matchup, atleast for me, was always marked as a possible loss. This is not the end of the season guys lets not get ahead of ourselves. Many great teams have had bad weeks. All we need is a little spark to ignite our offense. Portis can and will give us that spark. As for the defense when Springs comes back and its 24 & 22 defending we will be in much much better shape!!!!
DaveyFoSho 09-19-2006, 12:30 PM It will be much easier for Brunell with portis back as well. With him out defenses knew they did not have to really focus in on our running attack which made it alot harder for Brunell to find the open man. I really think that we should put in Campbell, BUT Brunell might be able to get the job done when defenses are wondering whether Portis will be the one burn them or if its one of our speedy receivers.
cowboykiller89 09-19-2006, 12:34 PM Yeah, we'll definitely need him soon. Especially in the home game against Dallas, to cover Terry Glenn, who in my opinion is the bigger threat between himself and Terrel Owens. (At least when they play against the Redskins). I'm not so sure if he'll make an immediate impact against the Texans though.
DaveyFoSho 09-19-2006, 12:46 PM I absolutely hate Terry Glenn. Next time we see Dallas it will be here(THANK GOD!) And with Springs back they will see alot more blitzing. (F Bledsoe) and With Portis back they will see the back of our jerseys in the endzone the entire game!
DaveyFoSho 09-19-2006, 12:47 PM We left so many people back in coverage and the primary concern seemed to be TO so they had their like 17th string tight end owning us. Bledsoe had all day last game but u better believe GW is sending the house on the first play next game to show them we arent messing around!

Mabye it was an optical illusion, but he seemed faster than I've ever seen him before. If he has that kind of burst on a consistent level... then I'd be more than happy keeping him back there. I think Mike Sellers needs to be incorporated in the offense more as well... (the little offense that we have). He probably isn't considered to be a threat outside of the redzone. Sellers seems like he has acquired a burst this year too.
My philosophy is that if someone else steps up when an offense isn't working... then give them the ball. Once we start making plays... then spread the ball baby.
I hope we show up on Sunday. It's long overdue.
Monkeydad 09-19-2006, 05:30 PM If we lose to the Texans next week, I'll be dead by Monday morning.

Good philosophy. That's actually how all teams should be - working or not.
