Glad I used the search so I didn't have to bring up a new thread. I'm sure many of you have been following the HBO coverage of the Kansas City Chiefs training camp. Rod Gardner was trying to make the KC team and it is quite possibly the best chance he has in the NFL to actually make a roster because they are pretty bad in the receiver department. As a Skin fan I always wondered why Rod Gardner was a bust besides the fact that everyone was always calling him stupid. I'm glad I got a chance to see it with my own eyes. The coaches sat in a room and talked about him and they all said he has all the talent to make any team and then the cut his ass because he is a complete joke when it comes to actually working on his game and learning the nuances of a playbook.
Isn't that show just great?

When I was working in the DC area, and covering the Redskins, Rod Gardner was always, ALWAYS, looking to party. For a brief moment it looked like he was going to get serious, but overall he really had no work ethic at all.

For a football fan it is such a great education.

So should we try and pick him up?http://www.thewarpath.net/images/icons/icon10.gif
Was that on the last episode? If so, when (near the middle, end?) because I can't remember any discussion of Rod.

I think we should sign him to a veteran minimum contract. Not as a WR, but as the punter's personal towel boy.

Another wasted talented athlete. It's a shame really.

I love how when the Chief's cut him, their personnel director asked Gardner if he would come back if they needed him and he responded by basically saying he was too good to sit behind their 3rd/4th stringers, so no.
He's a punk. A classic example of the Nuke LaLouche syndrome...million dollar arm and a 5 cent head, except no one ever set him straight on his way into the league. In this case, all the physical skills in the world, but not smart enough to know how to focus himself. Clearly there was a trust issue between the postion coaches where they didn't believe he was committed to "do what it takes."
Surprising that Marty...a "character" guy ended up drafting this guy.
