MTK 06-02-2004, 10:08 PM Tough to say what the market will be for a talented but aging star, he'll probably have to settle for less than what he thinks he's worth, some sort of incentive laden deal. He's probably looking at a situational role, a third down guy. azskinsfan2 06-02-2004, 10:39 PM We've been through enough of the aging vets (Trotter/Armistead). We don't need another one that would want big bucks. Let's stick with what we've got, eh!!!!! joecrisp 06-02-2004, 10:47 PM Gildon would definitely add some quality veteran depth, but at what price? I'm sure Gregg Williams would love to have another solid linebacker to throw in the mix. It would give him some more flexibility in his use of Arrington and Washington as defensive ends-- perhaps he could sub-in Gildon as a DE and that would allow Arrington or Washington to stay upright at LB on passing downs? Williams could run a 3-4 more effectively with a corps of Washington, Barrow, Gildon and Arrington. I could see Williams pulling a Belichick move and having everybody on the front seven just shifting around until the offense gets set. Gildon's getting old, but his veteran leadership-- like that of Barrow-- will pull this defense together, and he should still be able to provide a meaningful contribution on the field for a couple more years. As with all such veteran free agent acquisitions, as long as he doesn't create a cap mess, I think he'd be a good pickup. skins009 06-02-2004, 10:59 PM I personally believe would should stay away from Gildon. We have a new coaching staff and team and we need to create a group of players that are gonna be together for a while. At 32 its tough to know how much ling Gildon will be competitive. We really need some quality YOUNG talent on the defensive side of the ball. Especially on the d-line. I'll talk a pass. PSUskinsfan11 06-02-2004, 11:13 PM I think we should stay away from Gildon but I would LOVE to see a 3-4. L.A. Barrow Gildon and Washington......Daniels Griffin Wynn.....good lord who needs a D-line with LB's like that!!!! But if the rumors are true that Sam Adams might get the ax I would rather take the shot on him. Griffin and Adams would be a great combo at DT Darock 06-03-2004, 10:59 AM We are always believed to "be interested".... :silly: SmootSmack 06-03-2004, 11:05 AM Actually Darock brings up an interesting theory and I wonder if you guys think this is really true. The theory is that a lot of players and agents use the Redskins, whether they're interested or not, as a bargaining chip. "You won't give me $5 million? Well, Dan Snyder is prepared to offer me $7 million" The Redskins have built such a reputation over the past few years that it can come across as believable. I tend to believe this actually does happen a lot and that the Skins are often inadvertent participants in negotiations MTK 06-03-2004, 01:19 PM Seems like that's what could have happened with the Lawyer Milloy situation. But who really knows? I'm sure owners/GM's talk with players and agents all the time when they're not supposed to and vice versa. Both parties use each other for leverage. Carnage 06-03-2004, 03:19 PM I couldn't tell from the article... anyone know which linebacker position he plays? |
