TheMalcolmConnection 09-01-2006, 12:36 PM Even when first sting was in Brunell just missed a sack becuase Fulhioa(whatever his name is, got beat). I didn't like it. This isn't the HOGS of our past SB teams. I think I saw ONE play that seemed perfect and like it was quality O line (SB quality).
Then here is the question I present to you and the rest of the people who are scared. Has the rest of the league improved so much during the offseason that a 10-6 team that won a playoff game can't block all of a sudden? Or was it that OUR players just decided that were going to be horrible? It's one thing if we were the Cardinals or 49ers who had arguably one of the worst lines in the league. Our line came back intact, other teams didn't improve that much and we didn't regress.

Jansen and Samuels didn't play either
scowan 09-01-2006, 12:38 PM What is scary, as some of you have mentioned, is that all of the comments are about wait until the first stringers are in there all of the time. Well guess what, someone will get injured. It is inevitable and when it happens, what scares me is how fast the Skins quality drops. I mean if any of our 5 starting O-line gets hurt, we are in trouble right now. If Portis gets hit early and gets a stinger or something we are in trouble. If Brunell only throws to a 50% completion percentage, like he has in the preseason, we are in trouble. I feel like every other team knows who we are. The Skins aren't slipping on on anyone this year. I don't think the Skins can win with anything but their "A" game. Their "B" or "C" game is not going to win games this year.
JWsleep 09-01-2006, 12:42 PM Wipe the slate clean, fellas. Preseason is over. I have faith in this coaching staff, but we'll see on the 11th.
Good thing about last night: no injuries.
hesscl34 09-01-2006, 12:52 PM I'm a diehard Redskins fan. I think Joe Gibbs is a God, but our football team is about our players and I just feel like they don't care all that much and it is making me nuts. Is it ego? Is it over confidence?? Is it injuries? I understand pre-season, but it's the game before the BIG game. There should be some increase in the level of play. They should be showing signs of growth, of being pumped up a little more..etc. I haven't seen it. I’ve seen the same thing every pre-season game - poor play. Our first string O line needs to be sharp, perfect, and on it. Letting a Raven past you to get to our starting QB... beat BAD by a Raven??? Dropping balls left and right, missing tackles, endless penalties because the only way to stop the other team from making a play is to hold a guy or interfere?? Come on. It's pathetic. I'm pissed off. Joe Gibbs deserves a better performance, he asks for a better performance and he gets hardly any effort. I don't see HEART. Where are our SKINS?????
CanadianSkin 09-01-2006, 12:59 PM There have been so many things said by the coaching staff and even by people on here that should make us have faith. We do have the best coaching staff in the NFL period. People made reference to Brunell having a smirk on his face when interviewed after the Pats loss. Fauria was interviewed and told everyone to calm down and note that this is preseason. Saunders and Gibbs have both said they are taking preseason as just a practice in game speed. They have only shown 2% of the play book. In practice behind closed doors we are firing on all cylinders and that is what matters. Why should we come out and pull a Spurrier and run the score up on teams in the preseason and show everything we are capable of, just to have teams watch film and figure out how to defend it. Look at the stats for the preseason of our receivers in 4 games:
Moss - 3 catches for 30 yards
Randle El - 3 catches for 49 yards
Lloyd - 3 catches for 42 yards
Cooley - 3 catches for 25
Do you think we really utilized these players? We had them in, they showed us a few things and then we went ot the back ups. Brunell was throwing to Espy and Buck... this is not who we are... But those averages of those four above look pretty good. Imagine what it will be like for a real game.
And least we forget, we saw one series out of Portis and then it was Betts. Heck Brunell threw less than 10 passes a game?
We have to have faith and realize we were watching a bunch of backups and Gibbs and company did not want to risk having our playmakers/stars get a season ending injury..
Have faith Sept 11 we play for real and we are going to look sweet.

Hess, I think your sentiments are shared by many on this very site and to some extent myself. But you have to consider that the NFL season is a very one long one -both physically and emotionally. I think this is a very reflective and thoughtful group of players. I think they've come to a place collectively where they are really emphasizing on what's going to count when December rolls around. I would be shocked if this team comes out flat on 9/11. I think we all would have liked to have seen them execute better, but now they have to focus and prepare. Focus and prepare. Focus and prepare. I think those two things alone will have has all over the Vikes on next Monday night.
Also consider we have a healthy CP who will chomping at the bit. Unless they just on't show up, I can't see the Vikes handling us on the opener.
Darrell_Green_28 09-01-2006, 01:37 PM The second string O line is an embarrassment. We are in big trouble if we have to rely on them.
Im almost sure we wont have to rely on them. saying that i mean all of them wont be on the field at the same time during the regular season im sure.
