hesscl34 08-21-2006, 02:13 PM Lets hope that they turn it up a notch when the season really begins on September 11 ! The good news is that if Brunell plays well and Campbell improves through practice < maybe some game time > this season , we should be strong at all but backup O - Line and D Line . Vinny , if you read this ,,, draft a pass rusher next year ,,,,, PLEASE :)
I've decided I just flat out hate pre-season! It makes everyone question the team, the coaches, if we are really good or not. We can't see our 1st string play for real, and when they do play they only play for 5mins and you can tell they don't care at all about winning. When I watch the Skins I’m involved, I’m watching intently, I can’t wait to cheer and yell and watch them make a great play. It just doesn’t happen in pre-season. It's upsetting, it crushes morale! I HATE PRE-SEASON. I'm not turning on another game until 9/11.
TheMalcolmConnection 08-21-2006, 02:22 PM Yeah, I'm not a huge fan myself honestly. It's good for a fix, but after the first screw-up and third stringer action, I'm ready for real games to start.
TheMalcolmConnection 08-21-2006, 02:23 PM There were definitely some positives from the game that encouraged me.
First of all, B Lloyd was given the night off so the staff could take a better look at ARE, right? Well, Randle EL had two nice catches pretty easily, so that shows me that Saunders is going to be able to achieve what he sets out to do even if he's running vanilla schemes. That looks really positive.
Archuletta brought some pressure and had that nice sack. With either Arch or Sean Taylor bringing the heat from the safety position, I'd say QBs are going to be extra wary.
Jason Campbell rebounded really well from his pick and led a nice drive. He could have engineered a few more drives had Patten and Espy made some catches. For the most part, Jason looked pretty accurate and made good decisions. A lot of balls were dropped that should have been caught, and Patten short armed a few, so I'd say Campbell is progressing pretty well.
And lastly, Mike Rumph wasn't the man or anything, but he certainly wasn't what Niners fans made him out to be, so maybe, the change of scenery and better coaching will do him well. I don't really remember him from his days at the U, but if he was a first round talent, hopefully, GW will bring that out of him.
I'm still worried about Archuleta in general, but the man has some closing speed when blitzing. I was excited to see that.
gortiz 08-21-2006, 02:40 PM everyone has to relax...
gortiz 08-21-2006, 02:41 PM This is the easy answer. I didn't hear Gibbs say that. The team looked like dogs8it and they have two weeks to fix it. If they don't play better than that, they will lose to Minnesota. If they lose to Minnesota, they are in big trouble.
good god almighty man, what you thinking when we were 5-6 last year? I mean, I would have to belive you stopped being a skins fan all together.
0-1 and we are "in big trouble" sheez
Toast20622 08-21-2006, 02:49 PM We are experiencing the affects of change. We added quite a few new players, a new [or different] coordinator on offense and a 700 page playbook. When you have a group of players who have not had a lot of reps together to prepare for game like situations it takes time for all the pieces to come together. We also had a short camp with limited contact and players playing in games who were not here from the beginning. We are coming to see the pre-season hype has to be transformed into solid play on the field. I'm going to take all things considered and beleive that as we continue to become familiar with each other things will look better. Right now just about everyone is disappointed with the team for one reason or another but soon I think we'll begin to build on the momentum we established at the end of last season. We have good leadership on this team and I'm convinced that will be our salvation.
Pardon my rant, but I feel these factors are important to consider.
We've only used the first 10 pages of the playbook (vanilla)....opening day against Vikes we'll see "Rocky Road" chocolate, mixed with vanilla, mixed with various nuts, marshmellows, with sprinkles on top... the Vikes defense and all other defenses won't know what is happening
TheMalcolmConnection 08-21-2006, 02:54 PM Rocky Road with a side helping of pain.

Thank GOD for a little optimism around here! Love it! Great post!
That Guy 08-22-2006, 05:31 AM our REAL special teams use starters. but not so much in the preseason. I wouldn't make a big deal about that.
campbell is pretty accurate... in fact, almost surprisingly so, but he still needs more experience to improve his decision making. sellers can run well out of a singleback set (he's his own fullback :P), and El looked like the highlight reel self instead of somewhat unproductive one. Everything else was pretty much a throw away. Turns out that kerry carter looks MUCH better in practice than he does in games. at least he got some money out of it.
don't read too much into the preseason. our coaches use crappy play calling, limited plays and sub in crappy players (especially on special teams).
