A quick poll about Cheesesteaks

I just got into one of the dumbest arguements I've had in months at lunch with a co-worker. He's mad because Quizno's put mayo on his cheesesteak and he hates mayo. He claims that real cheesesteaks don't have mayo on them, and that he should know because he's orginally from Philly. He goes so far as to say that most people don't like mayo on them, and that's where the arguement started.

So, what do you guys think? Do you put mayo on a cheesesteak?

I say that most people must like it and that's why Quizno's puts it on without asking. In fact, I feel like most places do that (I've never had a cheesesteak in Philly). If they put mayo on as a "default" topping most people must like it.

[if I knew how to start a poll I would, can someone help?]

I like to put hot sauce on my cheesesteaks. Sometimes I'll add just a touch of mayo.

I'll add a poll

Philly native here.

Mayo is absolutely not a standard on an authentic cheesesteak. In fact, I've never heard of such nonsense. If you went down to South Philly to Pat's or Geno's, or to Roxborough to Delissandro's, I'm pretty sure they'd smack you if you asked for mayo.

Absolutely not. NO MAYO.

No mayo just a little mustard. A good steak sub should not need eather one.

It's all about the quality of the meat baby. Get some nice, thin-sliced ribeye with some Cheese Whiz smothered over it. Add some green peppers, onions, mushrooms. Good god.

Mayo is the bane of my existence. I get super pissed at restaurants who put shit on my burgers without my consent. They should come PLAIN and you request what you want because it's easier to put on than it is to take off.

F...mayo.

I can't explain it, but I have this sudden urge for a piping hot footlong cheesesteak with mushrooms, onions, hot sauce

I've never heard of mustard either. But you're right, if you get a good one in Philadelphia you don't need to add a thing.

I remember when I lived in Richmond during college I would get a cheesesteak and it was just straight nasty. You desperately needed to put something on it.

In that way I'm blessed living in this area. Though if I want a good pork barbecue sandwich, Philly f's those things up all the time. Virginia and Carolina are the places to be for pork barbecue. It's funny the way certain sandwiches are totally regional.
