I agree it is two soon to judge the depth and also feel Patten will be needed at some point during the season.
Of course the backups are all going to look bad together, but when you have 1 backup in the mix of 4 other starters it won't be as bad.

I say sure... for OL help.
We have a senior backup WR in Thrash.
If we lose a starting OL, we're screwed.

To me, in principle you would look at who you could get in a trade and that would determine whether you would trade David Patten.
Patten isn't a core Redskin in my view, so if you aren't in the core, you are tradeable potentially. The question is whether the player or draft choice you get in return is worth it. And with the cap situation, it would have to be a heckuva deal.
I think that it is great to have Patten on the team and I doubt any trade offers will come along to make it worth it. He basicially was on the shelf last year and I doubt people will give a lot for him. However, I think he is the real deal and with the new offense you need depth at wide receiver all the more.
I also hope Mike Espy makes the team, even if it spells the end of James Thrash's commendable tenure here. Thrash's time has to come to move on at some point and I think Espy is too good to let go.That and we actually lose a NET 1.2 million in cap room this year by cutting him or trading him, not to mention another million next year.
This means its actually CHEAPER to keep him than to cut or trade him. I don't think we could get a trade for him, and I know we don't have 1.2 million in space to waste on NOT having David Patten.

david patten is a winner...letting him go for anyone else but a winner dosen't make sense i mean sure he isnt a core redsskin but who the f88k is ?...i say we'll need him in 4 wide sets and if there is an injury

Next years draft will be vital to holding this team together.
Cousin Vinnie and the FO generally fill positions of need via FA first! Haven't you read and memorized the B&G Mission, vision and values statement?
