GTripp0012 08-17-2006, 12:18 PM A 1-1 start is really no big deal this year. A loss to Dallas will be unpopular around here, yes. But you've got a realitively easy 2-1 start this year. This is the main reason why I'm not worried. The pressure in that Week 2 matchup falls squarely on them, not us. Portis will likely be back, giving us a fighting chance. I honestly don't expect to see Springs before Week 4. Thats when the tough part of the schedule starts with games against Jacksonville and a road game @ NY, 2 games we can not afford to lose (unless of course, we beat Dallas).
The last game we played without Springs, I'd say we did pretty well defensively. And we didn't even have Kenny Wright then.

I get what you're saying about how we should make sure guys are healthy before playing them again, better to have them 100% than to see them be nagged by injury all year.
But I really don't like the line of thinking regarding the schedule being easy early on. In the NFL there is a very very fine line between winning and losing, and there isn't a single game on the schedule that can be taken lightly. If you don't bring it 110% against the Vikings, you lose. You have to get up for every single game, there is no taking it easy. There's no such thing as an easy 2-1 start in the NFL.

Ah! Thanks. All I saw at 2 AM was "Wtf?" Don't mean to get all post-cop-y on ya, but that late at night and I'm gonna need the links!

However, I have no doubts that we will give 110% every game, at least in September. And I truely believe things have a way of evening out. If Minnesota somehow upsets us Week 1, we just go take it out on Dallas the week after. Same 2-1.
If I was a gambling man, I would put this team at 2-1 after 3 weeks (barring some injury to Brunell or a prolonged recovery time to Portis).
As far as the Vikings go, they are being hit hard, not only by the injury bug, but by other circumstances (Such as Koren Robinson's arrest). It looks like we are going to be closer to 100% than they will be.
Big C 08-17-2006, 12:36 PM a loss to dallas early is bad tho because of division record. we dont want to start out 1 in the hole in the division. id expect kenny wright to start in his place, solid player.

I'm projecting the final record at 13-3(+-2). I think a 13 win season in a division this strong would speak volumes. I don't see any other team better than 10-6. That gives us a large gap for error without tiebreakers coming into effect. UNless in just dead wrong. But we will see.
The catch is, as I said in my last burgundy army article, we need the bye to have serious playoff chances. So nothing less than 12-4 will cut it. (12-4 wins this divison, easy. No tiebreaker) I believe this is very doable. The key is to get to the bye week with one loss.
So what I'm saying when I say a loss to Dallas is OK, is that we have one to give in the first 7 games (this is not the way Gibbs is thinking about it, do not worry. its just a fans perspective), we will probably be playing w/o Springs, and maybe Portis, and it's the hardest matchup of the bunch.
No one here will be complaining about a Dallas loss if we were to begin 6-1.
wilsowilso 08-17-2006, 01:04 PM Move Sean Taylor to CB for the Dallas game and he can shadow TO all day. I'm not joking. We start 2-0 with or without Springs.
bridaman51 08-17-2006, 02:09 PM he could play physical with T.O. We know T.O. dont like that. he aint tuff
Kenny Wright is aweful.
The ADE will be a breakout player of the year!!!!

Seriously, it's somthing to think about. He has the speed but you'd have to play him man to man...but lets be honest, in man to man situations, the WR is going to win more often than not. I think its going to have to do alot more with the scheme we place on the Dallas offense more than anything. Could Preiloiu possibly play corner? I really like what i've seen from him.
