Yes, and honestly, I have no idea where that comment I made came from.
Good musing Matty. Do you think they should get rid of full contact preseason games all together, or just cut back the number of them? I feel like there would be a huge risk in getting rid of them because you might end up accidentally starting a good practice player like Jacobs in place of an actual game time player.
I agree w/most everything Matty said even the preseason stuff. However, lets play devil's advocate, it's not just the owners that benefit from preseason revenue, its the players as well. That's what part of the recent cba negotiation was about, the nflpa wanted a higher % of team revenue. John Madden also made a good point the other night during the game, something like "so if a player gets hurt in practice, does that mean you don't practice anymore."
In a nutshell, players would stop talking about dropping the preseason if it meant less $ for them.

I'm with the popular opinion they should cut it back to 2 preseason games, and tack on those extra 2 games to the regular season.
Even with a shorter preseason CP would have got hurt because he did it on the 1st series of the 1st game. Preseason is fine as it is. CPs injury is just bad luck, there will be some good luck coming the skins way in the future.
There is no way 2 games will be added because it would screw up the contract structure by having to pay players for 2 more regular season games.

I'm well aware of the hurdles involved in extending the season and of course cutting it to 2 games isn't going to completely avoid injuries.
A 4 game preseason is just unnecessary and it's in place for one reason. The money the league is making off it. The league could make the necessary changes if they really wanted to. Problem is they don't want to.

I had a player in Madden named Rock Stone.
Tell me that's not awesome.
Haha that really is about as good as it gets...

Preseason may not be important for someone of Portis' stature, but it's certainly important for the Mike Espys of the world. Without preseason, is there Brian Mitchell?
I'm not sure the games is as big a deal as all the OTAs, and minicamps, and two-a-days (though the Redskins hardly did any). At least that's what I heard Mark Schlereth say.

I agree, if the league wanted to make the change they could. Of course that assumes the players union would go along with the plan. That would be the real trick.

i agree with the sensible writing wisdom of matthew. as much as i think shockey is an asshole, what he said about the whole thing was right on the money. 2 a days and 4 preseason games are outdated. back when football players took jobs in the offseason and came to camp out of shape, all that was needed. now football is year round, everyone is in game shape all the time. that stuff is mainly for the coaches

I'm thinking of not posting the rest of the preseason. Y'all know what I bring. I've proven myself for the last 2.5 years in the regular season, and the playoffs. Now you want me to risk carpal tunnel or some other injury to comment on the preseason? It's messed up is what it is.

As it is now the 1st team only plays about 1 1/2 games total in the four preseason games now and thats spread out over 4 weeks. If they reduce it to two games they will probably play 1 to 1 1/2 of the two games in a shorter time . I think the real loosers will be the rest of the players trying to make the team & the team it self for not getting enough time to evaulate new tallent. Yes, all teams will be subject to the same things but that is true with the 4 games. The coaches do not have to play the starters now so let them decided who to play or who to sit out of the games.
