Steelers confirm ending contract talks with Cowher - NFL - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-steelers-cowher&prov=ap&type=lgns)
I can't remember where I heard this, but a few weeks ago I heard a rumor on TV that said the Skins might try to get Cowher once he is out of Pittsburg.
Now I personally don't believe it, and I'd rather have G-Dub take over after Gibbs rides back off into the sunset, but I was just wondering if anyone else had heard anything like this before. What would you guys think if this ever happened?

That was a rumor on Pro Football Talk. I think a bigger deal is made out of this than should be. They'll resume talks after this season is over, the Steelers and Cowher that is.
Then Cowher will either go back to Pittsburgh or take some time off, perhaps permanently. There's a lot of speculation that he's leaving Pittsburgh after this year because he and his wife are building a home in North Carolina.

i haven't heard that rumor. but that would be a huge slap in the face to GW. i don't think Snyder would even go that low.

I would think Al Saunders has as much of a shot for the head coaching job as GW has. I don't think it's a slam dunk that Williams is next in line.

TAF, I also heard that Cowher might take a year, maybe a few, off and move to NC before he decides if he wants to come back.
I think that Snyder might fear that Williams didn't have much success in Buffalo as a head coach. But that would be crap, IMO.

Al Saunders was a head coach with the Chargers back in the 1980s. I don't want to start any rampant speculation here, but I will say that I've heard from pretty good sources that Snyder isn't really all that big a Gregg Williams fan. And in fact, there are several other key members of the organization that feel the same way.
They don't deny that he knows how to run a defense, and that he's a great X's and O's guy. But I guess the same issues that plagued him in Buffalo are affecting him here-he just doesn't get along with people. He's not a motivator the way Gibbs is. He's supposedly getting better and doing a better job of communicating, but he may not be head coach material per se.
I still want Russ Grimm back here.

I could not agree more on that.
I just don't see Cowher coaching the Skins. I could however see him coaching in college.

As long as Joe Gibbs stays with the team in some way after he retires from coaching, (hopefully becoming the GM) I will be happy.

Cowher & his wife are not building a house in NC, its finished and his wife & daughter live there now. His daughter is in high school there. I believe the house is near Raleigh so I would not be surprised to see Cowher become head coach at his alma matter NC State.
