I think that I would be glad to see whatever makes us the number 1 offense in the league.:)
Portis the one player not spoken ofGoSkins! 06-17-2006, 04:45 PM I think that I would be glad to see whatever makes us the number 1 offense in the league.:) GTripp0012 06-17-2006, 11:29 PM I think that Saunders' number one goal should be to establish the passing game as a viable threat. Once teams begin to respect the pass, the playcalling options will be limitless. Portis is invaluble in the passing game with his blocking and recieving skills. I wish they had let him do more route running last year, but I can't really argue with the results. BigSKINBauer 06-18-2006, 04:21 AM I get excited when i think about this offense. I know many here are more realistic than other sites but I don't see why we won't be top 5 in the league and top 2 in the conference. We have playmakers and team players. GW defense top 5 offense and 1 super bowl. offiss 06-18-2006, 05:31 AM I would actually like to see him shead some weight, I believe his speed and quickness are his best assets, he will never be a move the pile kind of back, I felt he lost his quickness with the weight last season. Some players have the body type to add weight and not lose their speed and quickness, I don't believe Portis has that body type, I think he should try to enhance his best qualities [speed and quickness] rather than sacrifice those attributes to be a power runner which he will never truly be. budw38 06-18-2006, 07:54 AM Saunders had Holmes and L. Johnson in KC . Portis is close in running stlye to holmes and Betts is similar < running style > to johnson .... as long as we pick up the offence we should be very good !! MTK 06-19-2006, 11:01 AM There are a few smaller backs in the league that run between the tackles just fine. Tiki, Dunn, etc. Portis is a guy who likes to bang inside, even when he was a bit lighter in Denver he was never one to shy away from contact. I don't think we're going to ever see the Portis from Denver again. He's transformed himself into a stronger and better all around back in my opinion. Hard to argue with last year's results too. 1516 yards, 11 touchdowns, 30 catches. firstdown 06-19-2006, 11:29 AM To me it seems as Portis will break through the line only to get caught from behind. I know Portis has a quick burst of speed but is he fast in the open field. He is a great runner but at times it seems to me that he cannot pull away from the pack for he long TD runs. Please don't take this as a hit on Portis I like what he does just fine it was just an observation. mheisig 06-19-2006, 12:18 PM Saunders' offenses in KC had Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson racking up 300-350 carries per season. Portis had in the vicinity of 350 carries both seasons with the 'Skins. I wouldn't expect him to be sitting on the sidelines twiddling his thumbs for the season. The dude was the workhorse the last two seasons, and Saunders' track record shows he works his RBs pretty hard. If I'm not mistaken, didn't KC use a similar zone blocking scheme to the one in Denver that Portis ran so well? Portis out ran everyone during that one. I jsut don't feel like he really ever got into the open field last year because there were usually safeties playing deep. One other time that he outran the D that comes to mind was in philly during the last game of the regular season. |
