We're going to have to get you to drop the "so far" part of that sentence

Seau is looking for his last payday, and he knows that every team in the NFL would only sign him to the veteran minimum--except maybe the Redskins. It's my guess that this is his last-ditch effort at trying to get a contract worth more than the veteran minimum. So, they say something like, "we are looking to sign for a little over the veteran minimum." It seems pretty obvious.

BTW, I don't think we should sign him for any amount over the veteran minimum (considering if all goes well, he probably would never play a down).

the thing iss, if he's terrible or whatnot, you can ditch him in final cuts, and forget the whole thing ever happened.

no one made a stink about ray brown, no one made a stink about andre dyson. It could be the same deal. either he makes it or he doesn't.

I think anytime you can bring in a proven starter who was arguably the best player at his position it is a major positive.

I don't know how anyone could be against this (as long as they don't overpay). Except for Washington, every LB is a question mark. I love Marshall but he is hurt, we have no idea if Rocky can make the adjustment yet and God forbid either Marshall or Washington miss time. This is a no brainer, not to mention he can share his knowledge with all of the other LB's and teach the young ones how to play the game the right way.

Because he's a leader on the field. Rocky and Clemons would learn a LOT from him. Hell, maybe even Marcus Washington could learn some things.

...not to mention he can share his knowledge with all of the other LB's and teach the young ones how to play the game the right way.

Sigh.

Here we go again with the 'he can be a mentor to the younger guys' cliche.

It is the responsibility of the coaches to teach rookies how to play, and to mentor them. Rocky and Clemons will "learn" just fine from Gregg Williams and Dale Lindsey. There's nothing that Junior Seau can do now, or used to do when he was in his prime that will somehow magically transform Rocky or Clemons into something they weren't before.

The coaches have seen it all, and they know all the techniques that were taught to Junior Seau when he came into the league. It was his special, natural abilities that enabled him to exceed other linebackers who weren't as talented as him. Learning from Junior Seau isn't going make Rocky, Clemons or Marcus Washington better players, or somehow turn them into the player he once was -- which, I suspect, is what some fans hope for.

So, can we please dispense with this notion once and for all?

I agree 100%. Seau is not some sage who is going to impart all of his wisdom onto the young Rocky McIntosh. That notion is retarded. Seau, if he's signed, will come in to compete for a spot. He's not going to coach the guys who are competing for his spot.

Someone please, PLEASE find me a situation in the NFL in which an old guy actually tutored a younger guy and made a difference in the younger guy's career? Players can try to learn from other players by watching how the best players go about their business, they can learn by example. But if you ask me, even if we sign Junior Seau, I don't want Rocky McIntosh watching the example Seau sets. I want him watching Marcus Washington.

a potential hall of famer coming to any team will always be positive.the only thing that would bother me is the fact that he's played the majority of his career games in warm weather,(san diego/miami).al saunders i bet knows him pretty well we could use another lb.
