These number emails have been going around for the past few days now. It is just spammers running some tests to find active email addresses. It's very easy to spoof email addresses. ;)

Sometimes it just needs to be reassured. Just hold it for a minute. Let it know you care LOL. Great post. It's very easy to spoof email addresses. ;) Right. If you have an email in a Google account, I most definitely wouldn't think it was a virus. Now if you started getting spoofed emails through Outlook (which viruses can take your address book and more) and you start getting mails, I'd be more wary. jamf 06-07-2006, 11:27 AM mine was on a work emain address what was created last week... cpayne5 06-07-2006, 12:50 PM They are sending emails out to a HUGE number of addresses. They more than likely never scraped or bought your email address. They just got lucky. All they are trying to do here is to see which addresses don't get bounced as being non existant. hooskins 06-07-2006, 10:21 PM i got the sweetest spam email a month ago... it was titled "pony rides 25 cents, horse rides 50" lol mheisig 06-08-2006, 11:44 AM I'm not saying it's some sort of omen or the work of lucifer, but let's evaluate June 6, 2006=666 Subject: 586876 remove the 5,8,8,and 7 5+8=13, 8+7=15, 13+15=28, 8-2=6 so once again you have 666 969 (invert the 9s and you have 666) 6+6+6=18 18/6=3 3!!!! the facts don't lie, everything comes back to Question 3 Matty, have you tried just telling your computer you love it. Sometimes it just needs to be reassured. Just hold it for a minute. Let it know you care That's just hilarious and impressive at the same time. How long did that take to do? Matty, if you'd spend more time moderating the forums and less time "surfing the pr0n on the interwebs", maybe these things wouldn't happen to your computer. On a serious note it wouldn't hurt to do a thorough virus and spyware sweep of your system, if you haven't already. Since it's a Gmail account I think it's just someone phishing for valid email addresses - it's a piece of cake to spoof the sender address. But, it never hurts to be sure your system is clean. Norton Antivirus is good for virus checks, and spyware often takes a software cocktail composed of SpySweeper, SpyBot, AdAware and HijackThis!. Those four used in conjunction with eachother should catch pretty much anything. On a side note, spyware is getting freakin' insidious these days. The stuff these guys can do and the ways it gets on your system is really just incredible. TheMalcolmConnection 06-08-2006, 11:47 AM Actually I'd go with AVG Antivirus for virus scanning. Honestly, it finds more and is less of a resource hog than Norton. TheMalcolmConnection 06-08-2006, 11:48 AM On the note of spyware, honestly if you have SP2 installed on your Windows XP machine, you should NEVER get spyware unless you have little computer know-how or you ARE too busy surfing pr0n and click OK to the messages that basically say: "We are going to HATE F*CK your computer with spyware? Is that OK if we show you boobies? Click Yes to continue." I've cleaned up my fair share of that stuff in the years I've worked in IT and it all comes from porn. MTK 06-08-2006, 11:55 AM I routinely run spyware and virus scans so that shouldn't be an issue. |
