Charles Robinson says Patten is most likey to be cutdirthogs311 06-02-2006, 01:01 PM Y should he get cut i dont understand y everyone one is hating on Patten?? If he doesnt get cut this is definately motivation for him Carnage 06-02-2006, 03:56 PM This argument basically mimics Pasta's and still makes no sense to me. HOW MUCH A GUY MAKES DOESN'T MATTER IF CAP SPACE IS NOT A CONCERN. And cap space is not a concern for us. We have enough cap space and no real holes in the roster. The only way Patten gets cut is if miraculously some decent offensive lineman comes available after June 1 cut day. Then MAYBE we'd drop him to grab offensive line depth. I couldnt agree more. Everyone who says we will cut Patten also says in the same breath that there is no one out there worth anything. Why would we cut him? Beemnseven 06-02-2006, 04:41 PM Y should he get cut i dont understand y everyone one is hating on Patten?? If he doesnt get cut this is definately motivation for him Yeah I don't get it either. Everyone (along with me) is assuming that Brandon Lloyd and Randle El are going to fly right out of the gate without missing a beat and will instantly make up two-thirds of the new Posse. There could be stumbling blocks, there could be short-term chemistry issues, injuries -- you just never know. David Patten leaves the team with a decent insurance policy. dmek25 06-02-2006, 09:08 PM 2 reasons todays players get cut, cant play or money.pattens cap number is fine and the old guy still has some gas in the tank so i say he stays.i have as much credibilty as charles robinson SanFranSkinsFan 06-03-2006, 04:41 AM If I never read another "he's getting paid too much to be a ..." column, I'll die happy. Two things wrong with those sentiments. The numbers don't add up in an expanded salary cap era. So Patton has a base of $1.035 million. So what? The cap is right about nine digits. He has the most and best experience in a spread offense. If it isn't going to hurt the team financially to keep him (and it isn't - they'd save less than a million because of accelerated bonuses) they would be downgrading significantly in actual WR experience and skill by jettisonning Patten, presuming Jacobs or Thrash would be regularly filling his role. And that, good friends, is why I hate people. Right, we should keep Patten as 3rd or 4th WR....but if we can score a big WR after June 1 then we could cut him. I don't like his attitude that much, especially after he complained about being put on IR when we needed that roster spot for teamers so we could make that surreal playoff run. But to give up on him after playing hurt all last year could really backfire, since the dude still runs 4.4 when he's healthy and has led the Pats in TDs a few years, keep Thrash for teams and please cut T Jacobs Joe! Beemnseven 06-03-2006, 09:28 AM I don't like his attitude that much, especially after he complained about being put on IR when we needed that roster spot for teamers so we could make that surreal playoff run. This is exactly why the NFL needs to loosen the injured reserve and roster rules. The league has always been open to addressing the rules in order to adapt to the changes of the game. Injuries to just one player can ruin a team especially late in the season during the playoff hunt. Being able to replace Patten's roster spot while he was injured, and then allowing him to return when healthy would have done wonders for us. It's an arcane rule that needs to be changed. Why doesn't that come up in the owner meetings? steveo395 06-04-2006, 02:37 PM Redskins | Patten discusses new wide receiver additions Sun, 4 Jun 2006 10:12:52 -0700 David Elfin, of the Washington Times (http://www.kffl.com/link/144), reports Washington Redskins (http://www.kffl.com/team/37/nfl) WR David Patten (http://www.kffl.com/player/1200/nfl) discussed the additions of WR Antwaan Randle El (http://www.kffl.com/player/1549/nfl) and WR Brandon Lloyd (http://www.kffl.com/player/5908/nfl) during the offseason. Patten said, "That said to me, 'Maybe D.P. is getting older. Maybe he doesn't have it anymore. Maybe D.P.'s not the answer,'? I have to prove every day that D.P. still has it. All the so-called experts are counting me out, but the cameras [that tape the ongoing organized team activities] don't lie. Our coaches know what D.P. is capable of doing." Head coach Joe Gibbs (http://www.kffl.com/player/9143/nfl) called Patten after signing those two players and told him he would play the best guy. Patten has no problems backing up Lloyd or Randle El if they prove to be better than him. Patten isn't mad and he won't be cut...and for some reason he talks in the 3rd person Gmanc711 06-04-2006, 02:41 PM I don't see any reasons to cut Patten now if we don't need the cap space (which I'm pretty sure we don't). He played a considerable amount on 3 Super Bowl Championship teams, and has proved to be a quality reciver in the league. He's not a super-star, but he's a guy who can make contributions, no doubt about it. If he gets beat out during training camp, then do whatever. However, I don't see the point in cutting a guy who could make contributions before seeing what he could do. If we needed the cap space to sign guys, this would be a different argument, but I personally would like to see Patten stay on at least until training camp. JoeRedskin bets Charles Robinson doesn't even talk about himself in the third person. hooskins 06-04-2006, 07:57 PM Redskins | Patten discusses new wide receiver additions Sun, 4 Jun 2006 10:12:52 -0700 David Elfin, of the Washington Times (http://www.kffl.com/link/144), reports Washington Redskins (http://www.kffl.com/team/37/nfl) WR David Patten (http://www.kffl.com/player/1200/nfl) discussed the additions of WR Antwaan Randle El (http://www.kffl.com/player/1549/nfl) and WR Brandon Lloyd (http://www.kffl.com/player/5908/nfl) during the offseason.
