We are going to run so many formations (2wr, 2te, 1rb; 3wr, 1te, 1rb; etc.) that saying a guy like Randle-El (or Lloyd) isn't a starter is kind of misleading. Our third receiver will likely be in for more snaps than our fullback... on some days. Pay no attention to the offensive depth chart at the receiver position - it will only serve to confuse you.

well, i do think our #2 and #3 may rotate a bit in and out of the 2 WR set, but El is really better as the #3 slot guy, and lloyd is probably a better guy to keep on the field every down.

I wonder how often Gibbs and Saunders will allow Randle El to be the trick play guy like he was in Pittsburgh?

Will there be more or less trick plays than the Steelers?

gibbs has always been a trick play happy coach. he's up for anything if it'll help the team win, so i'm sure we'll see it. gardner and portis have throw passes already, so why not El?

I think it would be a mistake to have a multiple WR set in a non goalline situation without Randle El on the field. Lloyd can play a more traditional split end, but anytime you have a guy like Antwaan on the field, the D needs to respect everything he can do.

Lloyd isn't a big over the middle guy anyway. He has made his living down the sideline making circus catches for three years, and I don't think he brings anything to the table that El doesn't bring (except a few inches). He (Lloyd) should be in during goalline, but with Moss as the guy who will go over the middle the most, I can only see Lloyd as the 3rd WR in most formations. Get them both into the game, but play El in 2 WR sets for his versatility.

that's well and good if you're doing WR option passes or end arounds every other play (but portis and moss can both do those)... when you're not, it's best to put the most actual receiving talent out on the field, which is moss, lloyd, and cooley.

Starting August 13, in the first preseason game against the Bengals, we'll start to get an idea of exactly how Lloyd and Randle El will be used. It's also going to come down to who performs and who takes a little longer to adjust to the new offense.

This is pretty much a no brainer list. Guys like Nehemiah Broughton, Jimmy Farris, Tyson Walter, Anthony Montgomery, and Nic Clemons could end up getting cut, so I don't include them on my list. Anybody notice how we seem to have a glut of DL on the roster?

QB-Brunell, Campbell, Collins
HB-Portis, Betts, Cartwright
FB-Sellers, White
WR-Moss, Lloyd, Randle El, Patten, Thrash
TE-Cooley, Fauria, R. Johnson
C-Rabach, Lefotu
G-Thomas, Dockery, Pucillo
T-Jansen, Samuels, Molinaro
----------------------------
DT-Griffin, Salave'a, Killings, Boschetti
DE-Daniels, Wynn, Carter, Evans
MLB-Marshall, McCune, Campbell
OLB-Washington, Holdman, C. Clemons, McIntosh (he'll eventually pass Holdman and Clemons on the depth chart)
S-Taylor, Archuleta, Prioleau, Doughty
CB-Springs, Rogers, Wright, Jimoh
-----------------------------
K-Hall
P-Frost
KR-Randle El, Betts, Thrash
PR-Randle El, Thrash
LS-Albright

because lloyd is a better receiver.
