He played well here (though not well enough to justify his salary), and he played well in Detroit. He had 79 tackles last year, which would (statistically) rank him above Salave'a and Griffin. I don't expect to see him in burgundy, but he'll play next year if he wants to. Let's not throw him on the trash heap of history. MTK 05-23-2006, 09:10 AM I think it's fair to call him a bust from the perspective that he never lived up to the enormous hype surrounding him when he was the #1 overall pick. That being said, he has been an above average DT and has had a pretty decent career with some flashes of brilliance here and there. #56fanatic 05-23-2006, 09:17 AM Just another in the growing line of #1 picks gone bust. Mario Williams WILL be next. I dont think Wilkinson is a total bust. He has been a pretty decent DT in terms of taking up space, allowing teammates to make plays. I think his stats said he had about 80 tackles last year. Thats pretty impressive for DT. A total bust, no.. just maybe didn't follow the hype of a #1 draft pick. But really, not a lot of those kids do coming out of college. #56fanatic 05-23-2006, 09:19 AM I usually bash who ever asks the question : why not this guy. but this time I am actually in agreement if he comes relatively cheap. Joe has had some foot issues and missed some time, and Big Daddy could fill in nicely. I am down with trying to bring big daddy back. MTK 05-23-2006, 09:44 AM I'm not sure we even have a big need for another DT at this point. We've got a lot of versatile guys who can play multiple spots along the line. TheMalcolmConnection 05-23-2006, 09:49 AM In addition to a lot of promising rookies. MTK 05-23-2006, 10:00 AM In addition to a lot of promising rookies. exactly, I'd rather see us develop some young guys rather than bumping one of them for Big Fatty ArtMonkDrillz 05-23-2006, 10:04 AM Was it him or Stubblefield who used to wear a helmet so tight that it looked like his eyes were gonna pop out of his head? TheMalcolmConnection 05-23-2006, 10:05 AM I know That Guy disagrees with me, but I have this feeling Montgomery will be something special. |
