GTripp0012 05-17-2006, 07:48 PM Actually he was with the Skins for two seasons
Profile (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1034)Gannon wasn't on the roster in 94. I don't know why they have him listed as a Redskin.
GTripp0012 05-17-2006, 07:57 PM Saunders never said he didn't want to go to battle with him. Actually he is saying the opposite. No one can expect Saunders to say he doesn't want to go into battle with him. In fact, if he's on the roster, I believe we should try to give him a sense of value.
One more thing I forgot to add: all the other QBs we were talking about were successful in part because they were trusted by their coaches on the field. All three threw a lot, 400-500 times a year. So that's another area where they differ. If Collins plays due to injury, and we run the ball 80% of the time, he still isn't getting his chance. And the offense would suffer because of it.
Given my football background, I would know the feeling:Flush:
That Guy 05-17-2006, 07:57 PM great, does it make a lot more sense after you've posted it the 15th time?
instead of discussing how grievously out of context you're taking that quote or pointing out a QB that showed up for the very first time after 35, you totally ignore those points and repeating the same thing which isn't even relevent as a reponse.
how do you tell if a player is any good when video isn't immediately available? just assume they're all great? stats have their place, and if you can't see that a guy throwing 30tds is better than a guy throwing 12tds without video, well, that's a bit silly.
GTripp0012 05-17-2006, 08:02 PM Well, his point is that you can't judge Collins yet even though he's 30 something which is valid, but you can certainly draw a stronger correlation between him and Shane Matthews then you can between him and Rich Gannon.

well, he's been around for over 12 years without doing ANYTHING of note (which says an awful lot in and of itself), and comparisions to detmer are much more valid than comparisions to gannon et al.
If you really believe he's a star or has the chance to be great that strongly, we can always put money on it.
skinsguy 05-18-2006, 11:14 PM I'll admit I haven't read this whole thread...been gone for away, just wanted to know if there have been any Brunnell bashing on here? :)
GTripp0012 05-18-2006, 11:22 PM Can't say there has been. This thread has really been about Todd Collins and Rich Gannon. Two QBs who definately don't belong in the same sentence.
Giantone 05-19-2006, 04:31 AM Agreed, Brunell is one of the smartest QB's in the league. Its just a matter of the O-line keeping him protected. I just hope Cambell goes in to training camp and exceeds expectations, so he can be ready to take the job if Mark goes down.
LOL, what you have his SAT's? If Mark goes down, you mean "when'he goes down right?
Oakland Red 05-19-2006, 05:11 AM To me, as Joe Gibbs says, Mark Brunell was born to be a quarterback. He has excellent talent, and is a very exceptional leader on the field. (Clinton Portis was just talking about how he keeps everyone loose in the huddle for example). Saunders has to know he has a terrific player in Mark, and he will not be looking to replace him anytime soon. (Which Clinton Portis also said - that he wanted Brunell to remain the starter for a good long while).
Todd Collins is I am sure a very fine backup quarterback. If Saunders says Collins can run his offense extremely well, I am sure he can, and I think with the talent we have this season, we will be able to make a run if Collins is forced to start due to an unwanted injury to Mark. Who knows, Collins could be a late blooming player like Rich Gannon. But we have a superb qb in Brunell, and there is no rational reason to replace him.
PhxRedSkin 05-20-2006, 12:53 PM I got tired of reading all of these posts. And if anybody cares anymore you can email me your thoughts. But here are mine: Brunell will start. Saunders does not make any final decisions despite his title. Gibbs does. Since Gibbs is back Synder does not tell anybody what to do. Gibs is running the show, like it or not, I don't care, I love it. So that's it, I repeat, Suanders is not selecting a starting QB and it will be Brunell untill......
