Can you bank on what others say? You have to check a guy out yourself. My fear was, as stated in another post was, that the 'Skins were scouting lesser talented players because they assumed that the higher rated ones would be gone before they pick. And if that's the case, they need to realize that you have to let other scouts do some of the leg work for you and not totally dimiss a falling prospect because others have passed on them.
Goldston isn't exactly squeaky clean. He has had character issues and injuries.
Obviously, with Blache, they think they can get a DT who can contribute in these late rounds. As for the CBs on the board, I'm SURE they scouted them, but made an executive decision about value here.
Wonder if we'll get another vet CB or two in late FA? My guess is they feel experience is more important there, while at DT, if you have the body (and the will) we can show you how to clog the middle in a Williams/Blache scheme.

...I do like the players more than last year though, but... i guess that means nic clemons and ryan boschetti are the odd men out. Legit upgrades! Updating rosters as we speak...

It's pretty hard to say if 6th round draft picks are able to supplant second and third stringers who have a few years of extra experience. If nothing else, perhaps the competition with Clemons, Boschetti, and Killings along with these picks will provide the spark for one of them to take the next step.
Let's just hope Montgomery and Golston aren't anything like other late round DTs like Del Cowsette and Mario Monds.

It's up to the coaches now.

Here's why I feel better about late rounders nowadays. We've got a kickass coaching staff, one that knows how to improve young players and to motivate. Maybe we won't find a gem here (it's a crapshot, no matter what Mel Kiper says on TV...), but if he's there, our coaches will find a way to get them to play above his potential.

I'd be plesantly surprised if Doughty makes the squad.

Given his play on specials, he has a good chance, but I generally agree with you here.

I agree...I am COMPLETELY shocked that we are selecting DTs with Dee Webb and Fred Matua sitting there at the end of the 6th round! I suppose this is why no one has offered me a GM job just yet...I think they went into the draft with the idea to shore up the DT position in the late rounds. If you use late picks to fill needs, you can't do it with one pick. Having Golston and Montgomery on the roster solidifies our Dline situation for a long time. I have a feeling only one of the above will be on the active roster at a time, tho.

His play making is what got the Redskins eye. Greg Blache has been all world with our D line. He like both DT taken so they must have something.
