Schottenheimer was thinking "Man that gardner is a stud!"
Yeah. Funny thing though, at the time, I was thinking the same thing.
Steve Hutchinson was taken two picks later by the Seahawks. But I remember wanting a wide receiver something fierce.
I agree about Koren Robinson. And you have to wonder what could have been for David Terrell if he'd ever had a QB in Chicago to throw the ball to him.
RG did have a 1000 yard season with us... it was always a bit of a mystery to me why he didn't pan out and become a better pro than he did. There's still time I guess.
You look at the guy and you just think, damn he's got the size and ability, what the hell is going on?
He's a Westbrook Jr. without the punk attitude.

All those guys plus Nate Burleson, Shaun McDonald and Doug Gabriel selected after Taylor Jacobs.
At the time, I was so psyched that Taylor Jacobs dropped to us too.

yeah, if you asked someone today, who would you rather have:
Taylor Jacobs (105 yards a year)
OR
Anquan Bolden (1134 yard a year)
we had our choice of WRs :/
1996 is probably one (if not the) best WR drafts ever.
1983 was the best QB draft ever: (6 1st rounders, 3 became HoFers, and HC named gary kubiak was taken in the 8th round :P)

WRs are the biggest unknowns. The position is so athletic that in college the best WRs are simply the most athletic guys who can just dominate over the mostly low quality secondaries.
But i the NFL the WRs actually have to have some intangible talents beyond simple athletic ability. I think these talents are highly "intangible" and hard to scout.

Its amazing to me that we passed over Moss, Wayne, Johnson, Chambers, and Smith. Wow, WTF were we thinkin!
I remember Moss was Danny's guy, he flew around scouting him and that's who he really wanted. Schottenheimer was looking for a bigger wideout to help block down the field, plus Gardner had the size, speed just not the hands. I'm with Matty on this one, wtf happened?
This is just more confirmation that we should draft defense early and offense late, just like Gibbs has been doing.

Rumor has it that Moss was the guy Snyder really wanted, but Marty had total control then, I believe. Thats why he was apparently so psyched to trade for him from the Jets. Good call Danny!!!
