....all this talk of drafting a RB puts a smile on my face when I think about we have Clinton Portis, who is what - 25 yrs old?

I wouldn't rule out DeAngelo Williams or Lawrence Maroney here either (their running game was terrible......Gore probably isn't the answer and they've not liked Barlow for years). In reality, though, they have so many needs that the second pick is a crapshoot. I think they have to be going TE at #6.

Yeah, they're probably getting VD (that's some crazy initials) at #6. Alex Smith will a playmaker to throw to.

The Broncos still have the #15 pick from the Atlanta-NY Jets trade. I remember reading that they were looking to part with one of their 1st rounders because of a lack of available cap space for their draft pool.

Still, if I were a Denver fan, I'd probably be voicing my disapproval of this deal right about now.

Yah, Denver probably could have had the #2 WR and #2 RB in the draft if they stayed where they were. The cap space problem makes sense though.

I wish we could have gotten a deal like that last year. Of course we were already short on picks last year, but still!

Denver said awhile ago they didn't have the money to add two first rounders.

Excellent point. In addition, I think the move was a brilliant one by the Broncos. This year's draft has a ton of depth. According to many scouts, there is a lot of talent to be had in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the draft. If I already had one pick in the 1st round, I too would trade the other pick to get two high 2nd and 3rd rounders. The Broncos should be able to come away with two high-quality players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

One question here is how this makes the original trade by the skins for Campbell look. THat was our pick at #22. When the broncs made the trade with us, did they think they were getting a 2nd and 3rd rounder, or a very high first-rounder, because they thought we were gonna suck?

As for the deal, it makes sense for both teams, IMO. The niners need top-shelf help ASAP. THe broncs are good, the draft is deep, and they don't have the cash.
