Can someone explain why we only get a 7th for 2005?
We lost starters - Pierce and Smoot, and gained 1 starter - Rabach.
I wonder if it has to do with the signing of Prielou or Stoutmire?
Anyone got any ideas?
Boy, we are really racking up the crappy picks. By my count, that is five picks in rounds 6 and 7.

the primary factor is FA signings and departures. We lost two, we got two.
the difference in contract value yeild a 7th, i've been saying that's all we'd get since about a month before it was announced (everyone was thinking 3rds and 4ths).
btw, patten and rabach were both starters. vet min and cut players don't count.

Its because we also signed Patten to a relatively large contract. Lost two, got two. Additionally, I believe that Pierce's compensation is factored in differently because we didnt actually draft him, but signed him as an undrafted free agent rookie.

yeah, playing time and post season honors count too, but honestly, its number in, number out as the only really important factor. if we signed no one and they went to the pro bowl, we would have gotten two high picks, but we signed two people and they both had injury problems anyways.
contract value difference only gets you crap picks ;) there's a guy on the KFFL forums whose crazy into comp picks and he gets 90%+ right every year (right = right team, right round... he missed 4 by one round this year and that was it)..

What is the lowest compensatory pick that a team can receive in the draft? I thought they all where around from around the 6th round on.

the highest comp pick ever was in the middle of the second round i believe. they almost never give out picks above the bottom of the third round.
this year there's 1 3rd round comp, 4 4th rounds, 5-6 each of 5th and 6th rounders and 16 7th round comp picks, of which the last 8 aren't really comp picks at all, but 8th round picks (not handed out for lost players, but there have to be 32 comp picks a year, so when their aren't enough signings to merit it, they just start going through the draft order again until they hit 32 total extra picks).
