Texans | R. Bush not a lock to be No. 1 draft pick?
Mon, 17 Apr 2006 17:38:45 -0700

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports there is now legitimate reason, for the first time, to think that USC RB Reggie Bush is not going to be wind up with the Houston Texans, the team that currently holds the No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick. This does not come from one source or from one team. This comes from multiple sources, from across the league, without any agenda to push. As of Monday, April 17, the Texans had not had any contract discussions with Bush and his representatives. When Bush was in Houston, a certain segment of the organization never introduced itself to the running back. The Texans know they have a dependable running back and kick return man, the two spots Bush fills. A person in the Bush camp said Monday, "Do I have a feeling that Reggie is going to Houston? No, I have a feeling that he's not."

Interesting rumor... if this happens, here's an idea of what the draft might look like:

1. Houston Texans - DE Mario Williams
2. New Orleans Saints - OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson (possibly LB AJ Hawk)
3. Tennessee Titans - QB (probably Leinhart)
4. NY Jets - RB Reggie Bush? (obvious need if D'Br F is gone)

they can't though if they want williams. the saints are favored to take him. They can't trade to #2, and they can't trade below #2, so its either take williams at #1 or they can't possibly get him.

the saints wouldn't trade up if bush will be at #2 anyways.

The Texans have MUCH greater need than a runnning back. The temptation is great to take Reggie, but they are smart to address some of their many pressing needs. It will equate to more wins than Reggie

Typical smoke blowing just prior to the draft.

it seems that having a high pick has a tremendous pressure that player would produce I am happy with our 53rd pick

More and more you hear teams suggest they would rather not "use" the first pick (if they had it) as the cost of contract and monster bonus for an unknown quantity is not very attractive. They would rather trade down for more value and less $$$$$

You just have to take the best player available when you have that No. 1 pick and Mr. Bush is the best player available. I am with Matty on this....SMOKE!

I don't know if that's smoke I'd want to blow though. Doing that would make a trade down all that more difficult (according to NFL Network). I really can't see a reason behind them saying stuff like that.
