Texans | R. Bush not a lock to be No. 1 draft pick?

I hear alot of people say take the best possible player available in the draft. Lets say we had the number one draft spot would we draft Reggie. He would cost alot of $ and we already have Portis and El who are proven players in the NFL. I just don't understand the concept of taken the best player even though there is not a need at the time and wasting a pick and the $ on an unproven player when there is not a need.

Right, AND they just signed Dominick Davis to a long term extension. I know most of the media pops huge wood over Bush, but I think they fail to remember he basically played on an all-star team. He'll be above average, but he's no Barry Sanders. He'll fit into the Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown mold. Above average but not spectacular. Sure enough, he'll be a cornerstone runningback, but that's no reason to blow your wad on him with the first pick when you HAVE a cornerstone RB in Davis.

the best available for us would be mario williams. I'd never draft a RB in the top 5... too much money for not that much more production on a guy with a much more limited NFL lifetime. plenty of 2nd round backs end up fine, adn the first round is the best place to get your OTs and superstars at positions that become VERY hit or miss later on (DE, true #1 WR - usually only one can't miss per draft, ie fitz or B edwards).

he could be LT II + pro bowl return guy. Davis is another can't stay healthy back (like deuce, and s davis, and d foster).

Davis is a decent RB/WR type and mathis is a PB return man, so I'd agree their needs are elsewhere.

Did the Texans extend Carr's contract this offseason? Are they locked into him as their guy still or might they find some competition for him with the No. 1 pick?

DW won't be LT. he averaged 175 receiving yards a year in college ;)

they gave him an 8mill option bonus, so i'd guess they're still considering him the guy around there.

He'll BE the guy when they keep him upright. That's what if I were Carr, I'd be BEGGING them to trade the Jets for their pick and get Brick.

Exactly..... Let's face it... Curtis Martin is over the hill and the Texans could really make Davis look good if they just added to their o-line. But I could see Bush going to anyone in the top 5, just about. Personally I would like to see him fall to number 5 and land with the packers, but they would only take him if they sign arrington.

I wish they'd get on with signing LaVar. I still have a feeling he's going to the Giants.
