Jason (Campbell) was a dick like usual. I don't know who jason thinks he is. After me and my other skin friend yelled out his name while only some other few were he didn't even look over. He just walked by. He always does that.
Have others of you encountered this? It just bothers me because the QB is an important representative for the Redskins in the community. Especially for kids. No matter the skill or success level everyone knows who the QB is. And we've been fortunate to have some really great guys playing behind center the last few years. Brunell, Ramsey, even Danny Wuerffel are all very friendly, personable people.
I'm excited about the Jason Campbell era and to see what he can do on the field. But I don't want our QB to be a dick to the fans off the field. That's disappointing. Hopefully, Campbell will mature and be more accessible.
mooby 04-15-2006, 11:27 PM Perhaps he's still in an adjustment period to how much of a leader he is now that he's in the NFL. Hopefully he's not some dick who thinks he's above normal people. Maybe he doesn't like all the attention he's getting. He's probably not used to being recognized in public everywhere. He's gonna have to get used to it though, it happens to any nfl player, except unless they're a backup or a little known name. J.C. isn't that though.
BigSKINBauer 04-15-2006, 11:33 PM let me elaborate because i really didn't word that right. He came up the steps and I really did not expect him to be there because this was a "U" thing. I tapped my friend and said is that jason. Very few people of the maybe 100 people called out his name or clapped. He got the same reaction as Ed Reed did. I was like hey Jason when he walked RIGHT by me and he continued on with his slow walk(the kind when people shift there weight back and forth: sometimes reffered to as a pimp walk). He didn't look over at me or the other people calling his name. He didn't even react. Lavar came up with a huge grin and was waving and was giving people fives as he walked by and lavar shook my hand with a big slap as he walked by. I didn't expect Jason to sign anything but a hey or a wave or a hand shake would have been fine. He always just acts like an ass when I see him.
The first time I thought of JC this way was at a skins game outside of the players lot and he was walking in. I called out as usual and someone said don't bother he won't sign anyways. I was like that is fine because some players don't but the guy went on to say "i don't know who he thinks he is"(i stole that quote up top). Some older fan turned around listening in to our conversation and said yeah all of the rookies signed when they first came here, from lavar to sean but Jason has this thing about him. He was saying Jason hasn't done anything yet and is acting like some big star. Ever since then i have keyed in more whenever I have seen him.
That Guy 04-15-2006, 11:54 PM don't really like hearing that :(
Warpath 04-16-2006, 12:06 AM Maybe its just his attitude. I would say that its hard to refer anyone to Arrington. He has ALWAYS been into signing autographs and giving fans high fives and such. Hes alwyas been around for things like that. Maybe JC is just like that. Who knows tho. Did anyone go to training camp last year?
Sociofan 04-16-2006, 12:30 AM Has he done any interviews with the local sports guys/gals? If so, how did he come across there? I haven't seen him anywhere on the networks and usually Comcast is pretty good about accessing the players and giving "behind the scenes" looks at the rising stars.
BigSKINBauer 04-16-2006, 01:11 AM i can understand if he is an introverted kind of person but I don't think it is that big of a deal to stick out your hand while walking by and saying hello. Really I don't see why he wouldn't just walk out and sign some autographs. Even if it was just to a few people and if it was just to the little kids. there are 150 redskin fans who came out and he can't sign a couple autographs?? I mean i wish lavar had but he isn't a skin anymore and I have seen him sign autograph after autograph before. Whatever, maybe someday he will step it up with the fans.
Look at what moss and portis do. They sign very few autographs at games but they do these charity events for the city and are great. I really like that. I think this was for the "three kings of washington" charity. Well one king would be CP, another Santana, and lastly Taylor who just seems like he doesn't do anything either. I have seen taylor sign autographs before and have gotten close to getting one. I guess he wan't able to come this time but really I was upset when he didn't show up at Montgomery mall during the season when he was slated to come. Oh well, by and large we have great characters on the team and everyone is willing to sign for the fans. Marcus and Cooley don't stop till everyone gets an autograph.
SmootSmack 04-16-2006, 01:32 AM I can understand not signing autographs. Some players don't like to because a.) they're then just sold anyway or b.) sometimes there isn't enough time to sign for everyone so they just don't sign for anybody, they figure people are less offended this way.
My only thing is he should offer some sort of acknowledgement to the fans-a smile, a wave, a "hey, what's up". And it's just because, as I said before, previous QBs regardless of whether you thought they sucked or not you can't deny they were great with the community and with the fans and it kind of gives you a sense of pride that such a good guy is out there leading your favorite team. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather an a**hole with major talent winning games for us then some great samaritan losing week after week. But the point is I'm looking forward to JC being a leader on this team and a valued public figure in this town in the next couple years. So I hope that this aspect of him improves
Plus, anyone who messes with the Bauer messes with TAF!
