You're listening to Mock Talk on WPSN with Brud and TAF. We're happy to have NY Giants GM Matty K with us right now.

Matty, you guys have recently signed free agent DBs Jason Bell, Will Demps, R.W. McQuarters, and Sam Madison. Now with the 25th pick you went out and got South Carolina's Jonathan Joseph. Have these moves been made in response to the Cowboys getting TO, and the Redskins adding Randle El and Lloyd? Does the fact that you didn't draft an OLB mean you think you guys are close to signing LaVar?

Brud, you want to chime in?

Bottom line, we need corners. The Cowboys signed TO and already have Glenn, and the Eagles signed Gaffney and have some young talent like Reggie Brown.

Joseph is a bit raw but the kid has wheels, we feel we can bring him along slowly with the vets we acquired.

As for LaVar, we'd love to have a LB with his talent, but there is a huge gap in the contract talks. There were some LB's we were targeting that were off the board before our pick so we went with the best player available and we felt that was Joseph.

Originally I was looking for Moss at this pick as a compliment to Muhammad. Since he was gone, I went with who I thought was the next best offensive threat. Pope is a decent blocker and a very good pass catching TE that is only going to get better. He will give Grossman another big target, especially in the red zone, and create some serious mismatches with his size.

Santonio holmes continues to plummet down the board. Maybe his dropped passess are catching up with him? Maybe teams needs feel like other need are more important right now...

We the Jaguars went with Demeco Ryans because we felt we needed to address the OLB position after the loss of Akin Ayodele to the Dallas Cowbitches. it is true that we have expressed intrest in LaVar Arrington, but we feel at this point that we needed to fill this position regardless of Arrington arriving or not. we feel demeco is a very special player and can help us immediately

The Jets are excited about taking center Nick Mangold with the 29th overall selection. Not a very sexy pick, but he's a guy that can step right in and fill the huge gap that was left behind from Kevin Mawae and be the anchor of the Jets line for the next decade.

That's a great pick, IMO I think this guy is going to be very good and it feels an obvious need.

Carolina took care of one of their major needs with this pick, and are currently working out a deal to move up into the early 2nd round to draft the other major need. The team will be pretty complete if they get the guy they want, look out for the panthers in the nfc east title game next year.
