Lloyd had not been expected to attend the workouts yesterday because, despite being traded March 11 from San Francisco for a third-round draft choice this season and a fourth round choice next year, he does not have the new contract that was part of the trade negotiations that brought him to the Redskins.
He said one of the reasons he attended was his confidence that his representatives and the Redskins will have a deal completed by next week. Under his current deal, which will pay him $1.6 million, Lloyd will be eligible for free agency after the 2006 season.
I am as happy as the rest of you that Lloyd showed up for vol. workouts, but all of this talk about him not having a deal, kind of miffs me. He will make 1.6 million this coming year! Is that not a deal?! I know all of these guys want longterm deals, but I bet half the league is operating under 1 year deals. Lloyd is obligated to honor his remaining contract until a new one gets in place. I would show up for workouts if I was going to make 1.6 mill!
The thing with Lloyd is the Redskins brought him here with the clear intention of signing him to a long-term deal. Both sides are well aware that he's here under those circumstances. Yes he has a deal in place already from the 49ers, but you don't trade for a RFA and let him play under his current deal.
Redskins8588 03-28-2006, 10:07 AM No one owes Moss an apology. Just because you had a great season doesn't make up for missing workouts! Players, especially first year players, only get working quicker because of workouts!
Let me guess, he could have had a better season if he was at Redskins Park all last season too I suppose...
Either way, the guy caught alot of smack from fans on here and he came in and put up stats that I do not believe we really thought that he could. Should've he ben at Redskins Park for the workouts last year, yeah. But he wasnt and he still put up record breaking #'s...

I have to disagree, Moss's great season more than made up for missing a few workouts early in the offseason. He was there for all of training camp and he more than showed up all season long with a Pro Bowl, team record breaking season.
If we can't forgive him for missing a few early offseason workouts after that performance... I really have to wonder.

If he had been here maybe he wouldn't have gotten into this legal trouble, so he wouldn't have that weighing mind.

I believe he was talking about Moss, not Taylor
PSUSkinsFan21 03-28-2006, 10:32 AM I'm with Daseal on this one. Early workouts are just too important to miss when you're new to the team. And as far as I'm concerned, if you have a contract, you are part of the team......regardless of how good or bad that contract is and regardless of whether or not you are going to be working out a better deal soon. I know you're not contractually obligated to come to voluntary workouts, but it's still the right thing to do and I think we (as fans) were justified in being upset last year that Moss missed workouts during contract renegotiations. I see no reason to apologize for that.
Did Moss prove that perhaps not everyone needs voluntary workouts to get up to speed with the rest of the team? Yes, and I'm glad he did. Does that change my mind about the importance of coming to the workouts and that it's the right thing to do? Not at all.
Obviously, I'm thrilled that Lloyd showed up. Definitely winning points with me.
NAVYSKINSFAN 03-28-2006, 10:37 AM I think that him showing up when he did not have to is a great show of his dedication to this team and to success.

That certainly makes more sense, my mistake.
Redskins 03-28-2006, 10:38 AM Hoping this hasn't been already posted to avoid the wrath of the anti-duplicate thread Czars.....here is a video to help everyone remember why we picked him up in the first place....
