The problem is Gibbs doesn't run an offense that restricts players to this position or that position. Most think a TE means you only line up on the line next to the Tackles, and a FB only lines up between the QB and the HB. Well, Gibbs realizes theres no reason to be conventional, when you can use players in various places to play to everyone's strengths.

Think the Pats defense. A person may be listed as this position, but they may end up anywhere.

It's all about sets. Whatever the situation and the play called will be who's out there.

Cooley will be on the field plenty, he's clutch, big enough, blocks enough, quick enough, and will go over the middle. But so will other folks. Fauria will be out there plenty, but so will 3 wide reciever sets. 3 WR sets can't fit portis, an Hback, TE, and a FB, and we should see some 2 TE sets again this year as well...but all of those positions will see plenty of time, and various players will see time at those positions.

Basically, players will play where they will work the best for the play, regaurdless of what the position chart says.

To me the great thing that Cooley does, is that he can confuse a Defense. If Moss is in the game, he is going out for a pass. If Fauria is in the game he is most likely blocking. Cooley on the other hand could be blocking, going out for a pass or like he did last year on many occasions, blocking and then releasing into a pattern on the same play as a dumpoff option for Brunell.

If you are on D, you don't really know what he is going to do.

sure you do. He's going to go out and run a pass pattern ;)

I know, I know, most of the time Cooley is "in the pattern", but he does block some and he lines up everywhere, backfield, on the line in a 3 point stance, out in space. He creates mismaches. He may not be "in the pattern" as much this year if the Skins go with 3WR sets. Brunell will have more viable receiving options. the one thing Cooley never does is run the ball.
