Bills | Ngata may not fit team's defensive scheme; may look elsewhere
Tue, 28 Mar 2006 06:04:50 -0800

Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News, reports the Buffalo Bills will not be able to address their needs on either the offensive or defensive line with the eighth overall pick in the NFL Draft in April. Oregon DT Haloti Ngata does not look like a good fit for the new defensive system being adopted by Bills head coach Dick Jauron. Several scouts and personnel directors from around the league say Ngata is not a fit for the "Tampa Cover 2" style, because he is a 345-pound lineman whose strength is occupying two gaps on the line. Other observers feel the No. 8 overall pick is too early to draft the second best offensive tackle in the draft, USC OT Winston Justice. The Bills may need to turn their attention to the secondary or linebacker. Bills general manager Marv Levy would not comment specifically on Ngata or other defensive line prospects, but he acknowledged the nose tackle can't be solely a hole-plugger.

I'm really up on him too.

Ngata is more of a classic NT, which are hard to find. Someone with a 3-4 is going to love him.

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams wants the team to use the No. 3 overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft for a quarterback of the future. "We ought to get a pretty good quarterback out of this draft," said Adams. "Drafting No. 3, we ought to get a pretty good quarterback in that spot right there. ... I hope we get a guy who can be our leader for about 10 years. It's time for that, I think."

Packers | Teams calling about the No. 5 draft pick
Fri, 31 Mar 2006 18:03:50 -0800

Tom Silverstein, writing for the Sporting News, reports Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson has fielded inquiries from teams who are interested in obtaining the club's No. 5 draft pick and will probably consider options for moving back. He doesn't want to move too far and fall out of reach of the elite players, but he could drop two or three spots and still have a shot at Maryland TE Vernon Davis, a potential candidate for the Packers.

the 49ers and Panthers have/will also both meet privately with Safety prospect Darnell Bing.

Dolphins | Team has private workout with S. Holmes
Sat, 1 Apr 2006 06:32:40 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Miami Dolphins held a private workout with Ohio State WR Santonio Holmes Friday, March 31. Holmes weighed in at 187 pounds, just one pound shy of his normal playing weight and that was important to note because teams had been concerned about Holmes' weight loss earlier this month. At his Pro Day workout March 9 on the Ohio State campus, Holmes had weighed just 179 pounds. Two weeks before that, at the NFL Combine sessions in Indianapolis, his official weight was 188 pounds. "I think what scouts didn't realize at the 'pro day' was that I had been fighting the flu for about a week," a relieved Holmes said after the session with Miami. In that workout Holmes was clocked between 4.32 and 4.36 seconds by most scouts. With Dolphins' general manager Randy Mueller throwing to him, Holmes reportedly caught the ball well at his workout with Miami.
