You're quite the optimist aren't you?

LOL

Wishful thinking, probably.

Good riddance. I was never sold on him.
Glad this chapter in the debate over Ramsey vs. Brunell is over!

Now let's get back to business and get Jason Campbell ready to take us back to the big dance.

For some perspective....

Going back to 1961, here are the QBs the Skins have invested a first round pick in:

1961-Norm Snead (spent 3 yrs in DC, 52% comp%, 196 TDs, 257 Ints for career)
1994-Heath Shuler
2002-Patrick Ramsey
2005-Jason Campbell

So far, three busts and one that has yet to take a snap. Not a great track record.

Yep, quite pathetic isn't it? In reality, quarterbacks picked in the first round that go on to great success occurs about as rarely for the Redskins as they do for everyone. Not many teams can brag about it.

But ...

Let's take a look at 1st round draft picks overall since 1991 shall we?

1991 - Bobby Wilson, DT, Michigan St
1992 - Desmond Howard, WR, Michigan
1993 - Tom Carter, CB, Notre Dame
1994 - Shuler
1995 - Michael Westbrook
1996 - Andre Johnson, T, Penn State ... WHO???
1997 - no pick
1998 - not sure

Not until 1999 did we finally get a winner with Champ. Then 2000 with Arrington and Samuels. Then we were back to our old ways with Rod Gardner in 2001. Then Ramsey. Then our first pick (in the second round) in '03 was Taylor Jacobs.

All in all, we haven't really had much luck with the 1st round picks in general.

all the best to Patrick. think the skins organization treated him rather raw considering everything he tried to give, but i can honestly say i'm glad it's finally over now.

i'll maintain that given a real chance with a decent Oline and a non-college scheme, Ramsey has the smarts, arm and toughness to develop into a top starting pocket-passing QB. not a decent QB, but a top QB. hope circumstances stop getting in the way and he gets the real shot he well deserves.

for us, glad The Controversey is over. now we just gotta collectively pray ol' Brunell holds up and that Campbell learns quick. dont wanna see Collins out there except to hold the ball for the kicker.

Then we were back to our old ways with Rod Gardner in 2001.

All in all, we haven't really had much luck with the 1st round picks in general.

The ironic part is Snyder of all people, strongly expressed his preference for Santana Moss instead of Gardner - who was Schot's guy. Moss was one pick after, by the jets.

And also, it's been a good showing with the top choices since gibbs has been back. With Sean Taylor (over Winslow Jr.) and the solid contribution of Carlos Rogers last year as a rookie (will probably develop as a better cb than Smoot, at his pace). Time will tell with Campbell when he starts.

Well the Taylor/Winslow debate isn't over. Yes Taylor has the uper hand now with Jr going on IR last season. But If Taylor is in jail for three years and Winslow picks it up then...........

I do remember that Snyder liked Moss more but who's to say we would have been the Jets and traded him away before he had the season he had?
