CrazyCanuck 03-16-2006, 12:54 PM Here's some info on Khary Campbell. Don't have info on his signing bonus yet but the salaries break out like this:
Salary
2006 $585
2007 $600
2008 $750
Total $1,935
Depending on the amount of his signing bonus he may be eligible for the vet min exemption which would make his cap number $425K.
JWsleep 03-16-2006, 01:02 PM I look forward to your cap sheets, as always, Canuck. It will be fun to finally see the details of how the skins "avoided" the cap while ALL the other poor, innocent owners couldn't!
Also, which skins can we still expect to be released or traded, in addition to PR?
That Guy 03-16-2006, 01:02 PM canuck, only arch has 5 $1mill bonuses.
carter and El's are all up front money. arch is just an injury risk.
also, the bonuses only prorate 5 years (you have bonus money out 7 years it looks like). thats 2.2per for El and 2per for carter (6 year, 2-3 at min most likely).

nobodies. A brown, J Farris (500k - 275k replacement each), some other even less noticeables.
we avoided cap hell by just pushing lots of money down the road. If the cap expands fast enough, we're fine. otherwise we'll have more years like 2005 (rabach/patten/no one else) than like this year.

Nice. As for down the road, if it means some quiet years, so be it. That's a nice thing about getting these guys young(ish)--they'll be here in their primes, so we should be set. Of course, ya never know, but the skins have been super resourceful in dancing the cap, so I have confidence even if the cap expands more slowly.
BTW, can we influence how quickly the cap moves? If we add revenue to our team, does that help? Or what? I have no idea about that aspect of the CBA...

Are you sure about Carter and El's upfront money? Just because the money is announced as "guaranteed" doesn't mean it's all up front. It's unlikely they would get everything up front with no additional bonuses later in the contract.
I find that Snyder has really moved away from big roster bonuses and is using more and more option bonuses. Option bonuses get prorated, roster bonuses do not. One reason might be that he's sick of restructuring 10 contracts every offseason.
2006 bonuses prorate over 5 years. In 2007 (and for a few years after) they prorate over 6 years (if the contract runs that long).

Yes if we add revenue it inevitably makes its way into the cap number.
There is also a new cap adjustment mechanism in place with the new cba. Basically if the 32 nfl teams combine to spend more than the cap (ie thru signing bonuses, etc.), then the league-wide cap number would come down the following year. If the teams combine to spend less than the cap, then the cap number would go up the following year.
So what direct effect can Snyder have in this area?
Let's assume every other team spends exactly the cap ($102M), and Snyder spends $32M extra ($134M) (not an easy task even for Snyder). So the following year's cap would come down by $32M, or $1M per team to $101M. This is a relatively minor adjustment. Plus it's unlikely the cap would ever actually go down while revenues are still rising. Instead what you'd see is a raise in the cap limit to reflect the new revenues, with a deduction for the previous year's overspending.

In 2007 they prorate 6 years, in 2008 and beyond, it goes back to 5. They made a very special point about archuleta's bonuses, and said absolutely nothing of the sort about any of the others. I think arch's are roster bonuses cause of his back problems, but maybe they're option bonuses...

yeah, but it's divided among all teams, so its increase /32, making it not a very big factor at all.
we will have 120-125mill in total actual money spending on the redskins roster this year though, which, as cannuck pointed out, help lowers next years cap of 109mill (though teams under the cap will offset that).
CrazyCanuck 03-16-2006, 01:28 PM In 2007 they prorate 6 years, in 2008 and beyond, it goes back to 5.
As per the cba, the new proration limits are as follows:
2006 5 yrs
2007 6 yrs
2008 6 yrs
2009 6 yrs
2010 6 yrs
2011 5 yrs
