Bears | Grossman has starting role
Wed, 22 Mar 2006 18:25:05 -0800

The Associated Press reports Chicago Bears QB Rex Grossman is the starting quarterback for the Bears. QB Brian Griese hopes to become the team's starting quarterback, but head coach Lovie Smith is sticking with Grossman for now. Smith said, "That's the way we're going to start up our football team, and we'll go from there. It's that way at every position. The person that's at the top of the depth chart knows he has to play a certain way or you give the second guy an opportunity to play. ... It's good to have these type of players at the quarterback position."

McMahon's very good, kinda like Patrick Ramsey for us.

Anyone would have lost a majority of games with the team he was playing with last year (no westbrook, 3 starters out on line, no TO), including McNabb.

He got replaced because of contract size, mainly. Harrington was destined to play.

And...it's Detroit...it's because they keep making moves like Harrington (everything about him, drafting him, starting him, not benching him) that they have won as many games as they have over the past 5 years.

Lions | Millen supports moving on without Harrington; trying to trade him
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 05:57:50 -0800

The Detroit Free Press reports in his first comments since head coach Rod Marinelli declared the Detroit Lions were moving on at quarterback without QB Joey Harrington; team president Matt Millen expressed a mixture of resignation and regret. "Nothing you can do about it," Millen said. "He's not the first one that didn't work and probably won't be the last. So we have to make what we have work. That's what we've got to do." Millen is trying to trade Harrington, and there is interest in Harrington around the league. But Harrington's contract is an obstacle. Harrington is due a $4 million roster bonus June 15 and his salary is $4.45 million this year and next. Harrington needs to reduce his salary for a trade to work. Apparently Harrington's agent, David Dunn, isn't cooperating. He has been asking teams for about what Harrington is making now.

Chiefs | Team remains interested in Harrington
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 06:37:11 -0800

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson said the Chiefs remain interested in Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington. Peterson and Lions' team president Matt Millen are expected to talk about Harrington at the NFL owner's meetings this week. The Chiefs appear interested enough that they would give the Lions a choice in the first three rounds of next month's draft if they can work out details of a new contract with Harrington and his agent.

Dolphins | Team calls about Harrington
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 06:17:04 -0800

Armando Salguero and Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, report the Miami Dolphins have called the agent for Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington to express their interest in acquiring Harrington. A source said Miami officials called agent David Dunn to gauge Harrington's availability should the Lions waive Harrington before June 15 when he is due a $4.5 million bonus. It is likely the Dolphins and Lions will talk about Harrington's availability this week at the NFL annual meeting.

Dolphins | Team could have interest in Collins
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 19:12:49 -0800

Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports the Miami Dolphins might have interest in free agent QB Kerry Collins (Raiders). The team could use insurance if Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) is not fully recovered from knee surgery.

very thorough ;) you have to wonder, with ferrote getting 2.1mill a year, how much is collins (who's better) going to cost? And if they're that unsure, why didn't they just re-hitch gus?
