11 Pounds Of Muscle..huh? You Must Mean Another 20 Pounds Of Mouth. I Did Like Smoot Though, But He Isn't No Carlos Rogers By A Longshot.

86 yards a game? On what planet?

9 games played, 217 total yards, 0 TD. That's 24 yards a game. One game with > 60 yards receiving. ONE. And he had 7 catches that game, so the ypc is pretty abysmal.

Dump Patten. Dump Thrash. Dump Jacobs. Your net loss there is 25 yards a game of receiving. If you can't get a 25 yard/game guy off the FA wire, might as well hang it up.

that'd be on earth sir. he pulled coverage and left others open. do the math.

he averaged 24yard/game
moss got 30 more yard/game before his injury
other receivers got 8 more yards/game before his injury than after
TEs got 10 more yard/game receiving before his injury
RBs got 14 more yard/game receiving before his injury

that's 86 extra receiving yards a game.

people are so eager to send him down river, but he really did help others get open (especially moss, cooley, and portis). I think if he's back even as the #2, you'll see better production of the passing game. He's somebody you have to keep cause he's WAY better than anyone else we've got (barring moss).

I don't think Smoot is going anywhere. I hear he's added 11 pounds of muscle, according to twincities.com

He must have gotten the 'roids from Clinton Portis. ;)

They need the roids from Bonds. The whole team needs 30 pounds of muscle in 3 months!

There's no need to go crazy and cut all of our WRs.

You can't have all-stars at every position.

Patten will be a quality #3.

I was being melodramatic but my point is, add up the total yardage all those guys brought to the table last year and average it out over 16 games, it ain't much, in the grand scheme of things.

IMHO, neither Patten nor Thrash are ever going to win the Redskins a game. Take some pressure off Santana? Sure. Catch some clutch balls on 3rd and long? Maybe. But true WR2's can break a game when the defense cheats on the "star" WR. Think Harrison and Wayne. Holt and Bruce. Hell, even Walker and Driver.

So, I think you're right -- one of those guys can be your WR3, but you don't need both. And Jacobs is just done. Flat out.

I agree... I think the Skins made a mistake in thinking Patten could be a viable #2, he's definitely best suited as a #3.

As for Jacobs I agree again, I can't believe he wasn't cut today.

That's some interesting number-crunching -- did Patten's agent come up with that? I mean, I hear what you're saying -- any WR2 who can catch halfway reliably is going to draw some coverage. But what you're describing is the failure of any other WR on the team to catch a ball, not Patten's excellence.

You can also see that Portis' workload increased dramatically once defenses were able to key on Santana and Cooley. That's doesn't mean that Patten can magically manifest an extra 40 yards a game of rushing by His Mere Presence. It just means the coaching staff adjusted their game plan.

Look, I'm not saying Patten is horrible. He's a serviceable veteran who's capable of catching a few footballs. I just don't buy this whole "Patten's our WR2 and this year when he's healthy he's going to kick ass" line of debate.

There's just nothing in his recent game performances or statlines that provide any reason to think that he's going to suddenly become some badass, game breaking WR2. And for that reason, I think we absolutely need to sign someone who *can* provide that kind of threat.

Do you think we'll cut Thrash? And what about Antonio Brown? I know AB is our KR, but that's another WR on our roster taking away from another position.

Boy, if Antonio Brown doesn't get cut, he's gotta have some nude pictures of somebody's wife with the pool boy. That guy seems to have a flair for making games a lot more dramatic than they needed to be.

i'm not against signing someone else, but i do think people are to quick to dump on patten. Once he went down, the fact that the change to running more was so drastic should show that he was important.
