Since Gibbs came back the Skins have been almost dead-on with their free agent/trade acquisitons. Griffin, Springs, Washington, Portis, Brunell, Rabach, Moss, just to name the major ones.

Sit back and relax, we're in good hands. :)

This is very true. Gibbs has earned the benefit of the doubt. If there's a player he really wants, that player is likely to be a good addition.

Nice highlight reel. When your team is getting killed every week and all you can do is throw hail marys, you get plenty of chances.

Here's a little apples to apples comparison for you:

Lloyd was tied for 15th in the NFC in targets last season with 109
Santana was 9th with 134

Santana caught 84 of those passes.
Lloyd caught 48. He finished sixth in the NFC in "passes not caught".

Great stat. That would make me nervous. Llyod would probably be a good #2, but having to give up picks for his inconsistency concerns me.

Here is ESPN Insider's take on the guy:

"Lloyd has marginal size for a receiver lacking both the ideal height and the bulk for the position. However, he makes up for his lack of ideal size with excellent athletic ability. He has very good foot quickness and good speed, though his top end speed is not in the elite class. He has a good surge off the line of scrimmage and runs precise routes. He has a burst coming out of his cuts to get separation and shows the ability to move a defender who is in man coverage with very little wasted motion. He uses his hands and his foot quickness to get off press coverage and knows how to find the voids in coverage. He has excellent hands and can make the acrobatic catch. He shows excellent focus and concentration on the ball when it is in the air, and with his long arms and his leaping ability, he will win most jump ball contests. He can be a threat with the ball in his hands and has a good feel for where he is on the field and where the sideline is at all times. He lacks the physical stature to be a physical blocker down field and is more of a screen and wall off guy. A big, strong defensive back can muscle him out of his routes on occasion. Overall, he needs to improve his strength and is becoming a reliable go-to receiver with excellent hands who is competitive for the ball in any situation. He usually catches what he can touch."

I recognize the stat say what the stat's say - but as Daseal points out: how many of those balls were catchable by anyone? Do you suppose that Moss would have had as much success in SF as he had here?

As a comparison (so we can compare their analysis of LLoyd to their analysis of someone we know), here is ESPN Scouts take on Rod Gardner:
"He is difficult to get out of his routes. He has great hands and the speed to be a vertical threat. He can make the catch with arms extended and has a great feel for the sideline catch. He is inconsistent and must improve his focus and attention to details. He has improved his route running a great deal but sometimes fails to accelerate out of his cuts and get separation. He takes plays off when he isn't the primary receiver. His blocking effort can be halfhearted. He doesn't have a good feel for attacking coverage. He lacks elite speed and elusiveness after the catch. He is a gifted athlete who doesn't maximize his talent."

Now if "Great Hands" means he can make any catch when he focuses, I would agree. Gardner could make any catch he wanted to - he just didn't "want to" about 50% of the time.

So if the statement LLoyd has "excellent hands" is a reflection of abiltiy - great, b/c it appears he doesn't have the same knock on him as Gardner concerning concentration.

Actually, LLoyd's description seems to me to be very similar to Moss.

I want Antonio Bryant. I'd like Jurevicius as well but I don't think we have a legit shot at him, so I say Bryant.

If Lloyd were simply a UFA, then I might be more inclined to want him. Not crazy about giving up two picks, even mid-rounders, for him.

he just caught 48 passes for 733 yards, 5td and a 15.3 avg.

and he did that being on the worst offense in the league by far, with the worst starting qbs throwing to him (and there were 4 of them)

Again, when you're throwing all game long in desperation mode, why wouldn't you get a lot more chances to catch footballs? Santana was "the other option" on a run first team, for cripes' sake.

I think most people believe Lloyd could be a decent receiver. The question is how much we're paying to get him. I am in no rush to buy the next Peerless Price.
